Favorite Dom/sub BDSM Romance Books
See a more updated list in What to Read After Fifty Shades of Grey
I love me some alpha men. I love a man who can take control in the bedroom. I like like to play in the bedroom and get fairly kinky. But I really enjoy reading about the more intense Dom/sub relationships. The ones that are full-time and/or the ones that are in clubs. Before I read Fifty Shades of Grey, I liked books where there was a little bondage and spanking, but since reading that series, I was encouraged to explore further into the genre. I still prefer the “lighter” BDSM. I always prefer romance with a “Happily Ever After”. Some of the BDSM books out there are way too much pain and not enough love. I go for the story, not the actual sex scenes (though I usually don’t mind them ;-o ) So here is my list of favorite Dom/sub romance books and series with some BDSM elements. (Some might just have the D/s relationship, others may have more spanking and flogging).
At the top of any list in this category has to be Cherise Sinclair. This author writes romantic, erotic books with lots of BDSM, perfect alpha heroes, and nothing too over-the-top raunchy. She is wonderful at explaining how a D/s relationship should be. Her books also have a good amount of suspense and an interesting story. They aren’t all about the sex at all. Another thing to love about Cherise Sinclair is that her subs are never perfect and are often on the heavier side. She has two series I especially love:
Club Shadowlands is the first in the Masters of the Shadowlands series (see my reading order here) by Cherise Sinclair

Master of the Mountain is the first in the Mountain Masters series (see my reading order here) by Cherise Sinclair

Kristen Ashley writes amazing books with Alpha Men and amazing heroines. Though all of her men are dominant alpha males, I won’t include them on this list because they aren’t really “Doms”. But click on the Kristen Ashley Category to check her out. She recently came out with a series that does fit this category, and I love it:
Knight (The Unfinished Hero #1) by Kristen Ashley (See my review here). A lot of people who LOVE Kristen Ashley (her books are like crack) don’t love this one as much as her others, but I still really loved it.  See the entire  Unfinished Hero series here. ALL of them have a dominant hero.

I have read a lot more BDSM books than these, but these are the best ones (3.5 stars+) I have read. Many are a little to dark and depressing for me. Since I like my books with an HEA, and I don’t want there to be too many emotional scenes to interrupt the HEAT, so I will only recommend the ones that have a good story, a good ending and some hot kinky fuckery!
Other books that come highly recommended that I haven’t read yet are:
Gabriel’s Inferno and Gabriel’s Rapture by Sylvain Reynard

Are there any that you can add to the list? Please comment away! I will add to this list as I read them so check back often!

The Dom Who Loves Me (part of the Masters and Mercenaries series) by Lexi Blake is a great love story with mild BDSM and suspense. Also, “The Reluctant Dom (Siren Publishing Menage and More)
” by Tymber Dalton is a puller-of-heart-strings read. Both are worthy of a list of great BDSM books.
anasdiary says
I sobbed…no, bawled my eyes out reading the Reluctant Dom. The Dom Who Loved Me was good, but not hot enough (in fact neither was very hot) but still both were solidly in the 3-4 star range for me.
Raelene says
Reluctant Dom is one of those book that just stays with you long after it’s done. Agreed to the sobbing!

Currently reading Gabriels Inferno (the 1st one) It is really good so far, but like Knight is not very steamy. There’s more steam in my Historical Romance books I always read before 50 Shades!! Bared to you was also good and my first book after 50 shades.
anasdiary says
Gabriel’s Inferno has been on my TBR pile for a year. The reviews are very split on it, and I’m not sure I would love it. One day………
I would go with Cherise Sinclair’s Masters of the Shadowlands series. Those were my first after Fifty books and they were WAY steamier. I LOVE that series!!!!
Samantha says
I read both Gabriel’s Inferno and Gabriel’s Rapture this past weekend. Both books were interesting and intense enough that I had trouble putting the book down. I love how both characters are not perfect, both have flaws but in different ways are strong. This book is well written, intellectual and has depth. The only down side (which isn’t too much of a down side) is it’s soft. Though Gabriel himself is intense, the love making was just that, love making. I’m not against what many authors refure to as “vanilla” sex,but I guess I just wasn’t in the mood for it when reading this book so it didn’t really turn me on. If your expecting kinky this isn’t the book for you. This book is more sensual and about forgiveness and cherishing every inch of his “goddess”.
Samantha says
Very embarrassed, I typed fast and didn’t spell check. Sorry

Sara Fawkes, Anything He Wants series is a great but SHORT read, she has pumped out four chapters so far, she has said a fifth is on its way.
anasdiary says
I reviewed it and was annoyed about how it was presented and the price. But I am re-thinking that decision, because it was really good and I see now that these serial books are a new trend.

This Man series from Jodi Ellen Malpas. No BDSM, but a seriously hot alpha male and sizzling hot romance!
Casey says
I especially enjoyed the Consequences books by Aleatha Romig. Book #3 isn’t out yet, but 1&2 are captivating! A fantastic plot with suspense and plenty of Dom/sub relationship, with steamy scenes. I HIGHLY recommend them!
Gabriel’s inferno was weak IMHO. I didn’t enjoy it at all.

I’m always surprised when I see a category such as this with no mention of Joey W. Hill. She is my favorite in the contemporary erotica genre. Check out her Nature of Desire, The Knights of the Boardroom, and her Vampire Queen series they are all excellent reads if this is your genre. She’s a must read author!! 4-5 stars book reviews from me! I would love to hear what you think of her books!

I feel like I read something from her but I can’t remember what. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!

What? No Gail Faulkner on this list? Into His Keeping is one of my favorites from Ms. Faulkner. Also, I’m surprised that Claire Thompson is not on the list. One of my favorites (and I have many) from Ms. Thompson is Accidental Slave.

I’m looking for a certain novel. I’ve actually read it but I couldn’t remember the title of the novel. The sinopsis is that an engaged woman tried for the last time to attrat her fiance’s attention by wearing skimpy underwear butwhen she couldn’t, she decided to go vacation, alone. Then, she mets the landlord when he’s having a bath. That’s where they start their affair. Long after, the man ex-lover is a model who has a bit of a screw loose. The model claims that she’s pregnant with that bilionaire’s child when it’s not even his. Media went crazy with the that story and more chaos happens when the model acts as if she cares for her child. When the models manager finaly told the truth about the child, it’s over of course. Did I mention about the woman’s father an ex-marine? Well, those two have problem eith each other. In the end, it went well anyway. The billionaire and the woman relationship was in trouble for a while but in the end, it was all right. So, can you help me find that book?

Tymber Dalton is similar to Cherise Sinclair, but personally I find her book better. She is an amazing author, lives a BDSM lifestyle, and really, really seems to understand everything. Love her! Her characters are amazing and complex. <3 Can't recommend her books enough! The Suncoast Society is her series that is all BDSM, but she has a huge range. <3 <3
Nora Carrington says
Definitely alpha, lots of D/s over/undertones, not strictly speaking BDSM although it’s there, just without the boilerplate vocabulary, which I found refreshing: Kit Rocha’s Beyond series. Some of the best sex scenes I’ve ever read and they’re not formulaic at all. For most of the authors you’ve recommended, if you’ve read one example of how they write sex, you’ve read any and all of them: across books, across relationships, across genres, nearly, minus some dirty words (compare Ashley’s _Knight_ to any of the Rock Chick books, for example). Rocha’s relationships and the backstory to the series are considerably more interesting and more complex than anything else I’ve read (and I’ve read most of the stuff on your rec list). Cannot recommend these books and short stories highly enough.

Ok so I am trying to find a book about a Women who falls in love with her college sweetheart they start to experiment with BDSM and she gets hurt with a whip and he leaves her… fastfoward some odd years later and she has a new dom who she lives with and she is very happy with him but she sees this blast from her past and can’t help it affecting her… knowing this ,her new dom goes to this old dom and strikes a deal. He will give her up to the old dom for a set period of time (I wanna say a few weeks) at first she isn’t happy about it because she feels like a bad sub but eventually her new dom convinces her and she ends up falling for and wanting to be with both guys… they end up making a Polyarmory relationship work and both guys propose to her. Please help me find it!!

I’m looking for a series. It was about a group of girl friends, each book about one girl. Bdsm themes, one had a girl that moved to a horse ranch as a veterinarian or something, she ended up as more of the Dom. One of the other books the girl was an Asian girl. Can you help me find this series?
