She’s wearing a black tank top and silky red pajama pants. My dick is still pretty pissed, but the sight of her breasts peeking above the top of her shirt makes him consider speaking to me again. Eventually.

The Down & Dirty:

This will be one of the best books of 2016. It was filled with my favorite things: humor, heat, heart, kids, and banter, plus an alpha male. Nobody writes the male point of view quite like Emma Chase. Some have come close, but Sustained reminded me that she is the queen of the male POV. Sustained is one book where I’d suggest the audio over the actual book because Sebastian York’s voice and cocky delivery just does things to my lady parts. I loved Sustained, and I am already listening to Appealed and love it as well. But it is not necessary to read them all in order. I think Sustained would stand alone fine without reading Overruled.

“I’m pretty sure I saw God and I might be changing my opinion on settling down with one man instead of testing out as much merchandise as I can fit in my vagina in one week without it getting weird.”

The Down and Dirty:

Cupid Has A Heart On was another hysterical book from Tara Sivec. She has a knack for making characters you are dying to meet and party with. I would love to eat cookies with them! The Holiday family came back with even more zany characters, and it was like another National Lampoons movie, this time for Valentines Day. You must read The Stocking Was Hung first and meet this family before jumping into Cupid has a Heart On, and you’ll be so glad you did! These books are so much fun, they’ll make you laugh even when you are fighting with your husband, have a raging case of PMS and want to kill your kids in their sleep. I am already imagining Easter bunnies, Peeps, eggs and chick scenes. I’m thinking of the fireworks on Fourth of July (uh-oh), Halloween (that will be a riot!) and Thanksgiving. I hope we get a little taste every Holiday with the Holidays!

She moves her hands to try to cover up her stomach, but I lean down, kissing her fingers and gently pushing them away as I kiss her tummy.
“You’re beautiful everywhere, baby,” I say against her belly. She’s soft here, and I nuzzle her flesh, loving that she cushions me. Her body already accepts me and wants me there.

The Down & Dirty:

I absolutely LOVED the cover of this short, sweet and sexy story. Although cheesy, it made me smile. But the use of the word cum (as a verb) completely changed the feel of PS…I Love You from a sweet sexy romance to cheap and porny. I also wished there was more of a reflection of the cover in the story. The fact that she was bigger than the perceived norm was barely even touched upon, if at all. Overall I did enjoy the story, and if you are looking for a totally sweet, super-quick romance, I think this is a great little read if you can get past “cum”.

“After all the romance novels I’ve read, I seem to have found my own sweet, brooding, scarred hero. I want to keep him, and I want him to want to keep me, too.”

The Down and Dirty:

Snow and Mistletoe is just what it was warned to be, sweet and cheesy, but that’s OK in Christmas books. It just moved so fast it was breakneck speed. I could have had a few more pages of the couple actually speaking rather than reading or fucking. But again, just like in PS…I Love You, the use of the word cum as a verb really ruined the whole feel of the book to me.

“Everything was fine at first when I kind of hate-liked you, and you were eating at the Vagina Emporium in public bathrooms”

The Down & Dirty:

I loved Pucked. I enjoyed Pucked up, even more so because it introduced Lily and Randy from Pucked Over. While not quite as funny as Pucked (because there just can’t be two Violets in one group), Pucked Over was a more mature addition to the series. Don’t worry, not too mature, but this one was filled with a lot more emotion. It was still hilarious and hot but it was also heartfelt and sweet. I enjoyed seeing the growth of Lily and Randy together and apart, and visiting with the couples from the two previous books. If I had to choose between Pucked and Pucked Over, I’d have a hard time. I totally recommend reading the series in order for the full effect.

“I can’t believe we’re doing this,”
“Believe it, Spitfire. If you can’t believe it, I’ll make sure you effing feel it.”

The Down and Dirty:

This is a hard one for me to judge. First of all, it’s nearly impossible to separate the story from the narration, and the narration was just…not good, especially Untouchable. I can see Danielle is a good story teller, but the characters felt very young, snooty and immature to me. However, I was compelled to listen despite the narrator, and even though I didn’t love the characters, I really want to see them together. I have heard amazing things about Rapture, the third book in the series, and if it was available on audio when I finished Untouchable, I would have immediately downloaded it despite the narrators. For me though, I don’t switch from audio to reading mid series, and I’m not sure I will still be interested by the time Rapture is out on audio.
I will definitely read more from this author, hopefully about slightly older characters, or at least more mature.
Bottom line: If you like New Adult Stepbrother books, I think you will enjoy this very much, but skip the audio and read it.

Carpe Diem Rae Matthews

STARS_4.5

“The next paper you open you will find your high school Carpe Diem list. You have been so busy taking care of us that you never had time to cross anything off the list, once upon a time you were hell bent on adding to your list and crossing items off to make sure that you made the most of each day.
So for the next year, we are going to cross some things off your list and have some of the adventures we had to put on hold.”

The Down and Dirty:

Rae Matthews wrote a story that is very different from what I’ve read in the past. While it’s not fully a romance…it is. The romance is with the love of her life who is already gone. It’s about loving life. It’s about grabbing all opportunities for happiness. It’s about loving again but not diminishing what you had. Carpe Diem is emotional and fun, and takes you on an adventure right with the characters.

“Insults are our flirting. Arguing is our foreplay. One time, she was so worked up she hauled off and took a swing at me – and my reaction was a boner that wouldn’t be denied. It’s not as twisted as it sounds. It works for us.”

The Down and Dirty:

Appealed by Emma Chase is another male point of view masterpiece from Emma. Filled with witty banter, tons of emotion, plenty of laugh out loud moments, hot sex and visits with the gang, I loved everything about it. While the narrator didn’t pull off cocky alpha quite the way Sebastian York does, he did a really good job, and I do recommend the audio version of Appealed.

“Oh, the things I want to do to you definitely border on illegal. But I’ll wait until you’re begging me for them.”

The Down & Dirty:

Bare Your Soul by Rochelle Paige is one of those books you gobble up like candy. It’s like a mini cupcake. All the flavor you love from a big cupcake in a delicious bite-sized morsel. It was a full story that left me satisfied and I didn’t feel like it was too short. It was like a little quick, comfortable indulgence with all the things I love in a contemporary erotic romance.

FLAMES_4

“So here I was, a princess in a frozen world with a very scary yet very hot husband who could really kiss and liked to cuddle.”

The Down & Dirty:

Wildest Dreams was still very much a Kristen Ashley book. I expected it to be a little more “otherworldly” but it wasn’t. it was a nice and easy transition into the fantasy world, so I think it would be easy for any fan of her contemporary books to get into this series. I have never felt such a crushing need to go back for more right after I finish a book. I honestly rushed through the other books I committed to, blew off work and had to get to Golden Dynasty right away, and it was even better. Filled with adventure, romance, palaces, wars, executions, kidnappings and even more romance, I’m telling you, if you are a fan of Kristen Ashley, I don’t care if you have never read a fantasy or paranormal book before, you need to try this series. You won’t regret it.

1. Trailer Park Virgin by Alexa Riley

Rick’s been raising little Gracie for the past five years. She even calls him Daddy, but recently things have started to change, and that name has started to have a whole different feel to it.

Ty’s lived with Rick since he lost his parents in a car accident. Then Gracie came into their lives and the world seemed to light up, but the brotherly feelings he once had are now long forgotten as little Gracie has turned into a woman.

Gracie doesn’t know what to do with her feelings for Rick and Ty: the two men who once felt like a father and brother to her. They’ve been her whole world since her mom skipped town, leaving her all alone in a trailer park. But something has to change. She wants them both, and she’ll have them one way or another.

**No one is related in this story**

Friend to friend, this book is filthy. It’s a smut-fest like we’ve never written, and you’ll probably die of shame when you read it.

There’s no cheating, and it’s even safe! But we’ve left plot at the door and gone over the line.

Not for nothing, but you don’t want this book. It’s a 10,000-word story we had to write for our own personal enjoyment.

BUT if you insist on buying it, please know that I tried to stop you.

My review will be up in a few days

2. Cupid Has a Heart-On (The Holidays #2) by Tara Sivec

The Holiday family is back, crazier than ever in this special, Valentine’s Day story!

Cupid hits a few roadblocks on the way to Sam and Noel’s hearts after their whirlwind Christmas romance. N*pplegate 2016, a stray stripper and a regrettable mix-up with narcotics are just the tips of the arrow when it comes to shooting these two with happily ever after. Nothing seeing a grown man wearing an adult diaper and wings can’t fix…hopefully.

3. RoomHate by Penelope Ward

RoomHate: The #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller

Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.

Author’s note – RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

6. Sex Sessions: Uncut (Camera Tales Book 1) by Charisse Spiers

Note from the author: This is the first book within a series of standalones. Full length. Intended for audiences 18+ due to sexual content and language.

I’m Saxton Maverick, famous for the size of my…

Well, you can fill in the blank.

I’m good at sex.

When given the right tool I decided to use it to my advantage.

I’m not cocky, just confident.

Don’t believe me? I have a reputation and a bank account to prove it. I’m an icon.

Those that badmouth me for my career are usually the ones that contribute to my salary the most.

But I’ll keep their secrets.

I am only in the company of a woman when she’s naked and ready to go.

I don’t choose my partner. She’s chosen for me.

I have one job… Fuck her to the best of my ability and make it natural, memorable, and believable.

You want a piece? I’m easily at your disposal.

The definition of true talent is when you can make a woman come without even touching her.

There is no room for jealousy or love in my life. The day I chose this job I left those possibilities behind.

For good reason at the time, but that’s in the past.

We fuck, we film, and we forget.

That is the life of a porn star.

Then the producers wanted to go a different route, so they started a new project and gave me her…

One look in her eyes and I can tell she has no experience.

She looks terrified of what she’s about to do, what she’s about to become.

Kambry Rivers they call her. I have no idea why she is here, but this is going to be fun. I don’t even feel guilty.

Let the sessions begin.

“Marry me.”
“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.
He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”

What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?

Of course, I said yes.

Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.

Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.

I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.

Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.

Answers I can’t give.

9. Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Erika

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He’s handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true, as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

11. Bare Your Soul by Rochelle Paige

Angelica Rose’s mom always told her that desperate times called for desperate measures. Walking into a strip club and asking for an audition certainly qualifies as desperate, but when her mom’s battle with cancer ends months before Angelica is due to start college, she doesn’t feel like she has much choice.

The moment Morgan Cadwell sees her on his stage, he knows she’s the one woman who could make him break all the rules. There’s no way he’s going to let Angelica dance for other men, so he hires her as his live-in personal assistant instead.

Morgan’s offer lets Angelica keep her clothes on…but little does she know that, in the end, he’ll make her bare her soul instead.

Warning: This book is about an alpha caveman and a sweet but fierce virgin heroine who fall ridiculously fast in insta-love. If you’re okay with that, then enjoy!

12. Royal by Winter Renshaw

His name is Royal, but he’s no prince charming. He’s not even a prince – though you could say I loved him once upon a time.

He was my older brother’s best friend.

Growing up, he sat at our dinner table every Sunday, teased me mercilessly, and pretended I annoyed him.

When I was old enough, he took me on my first date.

Royal taught me how to drive. Escorted me to my junior prom. Gave me my first kiss…amongst other things. He was my first taste of toe-curling, all-consuming, can’t-sleep love.

We had our whole lives ahead of us. There was never anyone else for me but him.

And then he disappeared. No letter. No explanation. Not even a goodbye.

My sisters and brother never forgave him, and my parents forbade me from speaking his name in our house ever again. For all intents and purposes, we were to pretend Royal Lockhart never existed.

I’ve spent the last seven years trying in vain to forget my first love, but just when I think I’ve finally moved on, guess who’s back in town?

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is a full-length, stand alone, older brother’s best friend/unrequited love romance with a happily ever after and no cliffhanger. Enjoy! xoxo

James Preston is the client of her dreams–he’s offering to pay her more money for two weeks than she’s ever made before. But James is… difficult. He’s gorgeous, troubled and all too human for Audrey’s business-like tastes. Determined to complete her assignment and collect the money, Audrey tries to play by James’s rules. But before she knows what’s happening, he’s rewriting the contract.

When Audrey ends up in James’s bed, he realizes that she’s everything he’s wanted… and everything he’s been running from.
This is Book One of The Escort Collection, but it’s a standalone novel with an HEA!

18. 44 Chapters About 4 Men: A Memoir by BB Easton

School psychologists aren’t supposed to write books about sex. Doing so would be considered “unethical” and “a fireable offense.” Lucky for you, ethics was never my strong suit.

After spending years trying to spice up my sex life, I gave up and took to my journal. Perhaps my gorgeous, cold, number crunching husband simply wasn’t capable of the kind of passion I’d come to expect. After all, my ex-boyfriends—a skinhead turned US Marine turned motorcycle club outlaw, a baby-faced punk rocker out on parole, and a heavy-metal bass player—were every bit as tattooed and testosterone-fueled as the leading men in my favorite romance novels. If I couldn’t have that kind of passion again in real life, at least I could write about it. Right? Nobody had to know. It would be my little secret.

Well, guess what? My husband read that shit.

And guess what else? He upped his fucking game.

Drunk with power and under the dubious advisement of my best friend and colleague, I began testing the limits—crafting journal entries specifically designed to manipulate Ken’s behavior. For the most part, he responded beautifully…except when he didn’t.

Told through actual journal entries, steamy short stories, personal emails, a few haikus, and at least one dirty limerick, 44 Chapters About 4 Men chronicles the year I spent toying with my husband’s mind and ignoring all ethical standards of psychology. I decided to publish it in the hopes that someone out there might benefit from my discovery—or at least laugh at it—but in doing so I’m risking more than just my career. If word of this book gets back to Ken, I could lose the very man I’ve worked so hard to perfect.

19. Guarding His Obsession by Alexa Riley

When Drake Hart’s security team is hired to find a stalker, he has no idea what’s in store for him. However, the day Zoey Lewis’ picture lands in his lap, there’s nothing he won’t do to save her. He’s always been quiet and shy, but seeing her changes everything.

Zoey is missing a filter when it comes to interacting with people. She’s used to being lost in her computer and being taken care of by her sister. She’s an oddball, and people find it hard to deal with. But when Drake Hulk-smashes his way into her world, she doesn’t feel so out of place.

When Zoey is threatened and needs protection, will Drake save the day? With a body like his, all signs point to yes!

Warning: He owns a security firm. She’s a little nerdy. It’s a classic trope and a recipe for sugary-sweet erotica!

20. Alpha One Security: Harris by Jasinda Wilder

Nicholas Harris is a professional badass. Ex-Army Ranger, former personal security for the one and only Valentine Roth, mercenary, assassin, pilot, and my lover. After Roth and Kyrie holed up in their island fortress estate in the Caribbean, Nick started a private security contracting company: Alpha One Security. He hired the best of the best, the scariest, nastiest, toughest—and sexiest—security experts in the business.

And now he has the mission of a lifetime: the three year old daughter of two A-list celebrities has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. The twist? The mercenary and Russian mafioso who snatched the sweet, innocent little girl is a vicious, evil, sadistic thug with a grudge against Nick.

And the fallout from this mission will be jet fuel on the flames of that grudge, pulling everyone around Nick into the vortex of violence and vengeance. Good thing we have the seven deadliest and most badass men on the planet on our team…
And oh yeah, there’s little ol’ me:

Layla Campari, mercenary-in-training.

Sustained and Appealed are both on my WTR list already. I loved the audiobook format of Overruled narrated by Jason Carpenter, one of top my favorite male narrators. However, unlike most audiophiles, I don’t care for Sebastian York’s voice at all, so I’ll be switching to the e-book format for Sustained only. Narrator Deacon Lee sounds fine as the narrator for Appealed, although I wish Rob Shapiro or Zachary Webber had been chosen for this one since Emma obviously wanted different male narrators for each audiobook.
