Passion and Ponies by Tara Sivec
Chocoholics 2. Should be read in order, but can stand alone. Funny adult contemporary.
Ava Gilmore has the perfect life. She’s surrounded by people who love her, she’s having sex on a regular basis and her Coach bag collection just grew by three. The problem? She’s expected to follow in her family’s footsteps at Seduction and Snacks, working with sex toys and baked goods.
Ava loves vibrators and cupcakes as much as the next person, she’d just rather play with them than sell them. With her shopping addiction reaching an all time high and her credit card bills piling up, Ava decides to put her obsession to good use and start a fashion blog. But she has one other problem – the guy she’s having sex with has a My Little Pony addiction.
While dealing with her family’s disappointment and confusion over her choices, she finds support in the unlikeliest of places – Tyler Branson. Tyler has slowly wormed his way into her bed, her ass and her heart and he refuses to leave. Tyler has his own family problems to deal with and for the first time ever, Ava finds herself feeling bad for the annoying, immature guy and chanting “Friendship is magic!” during the sex she’d swore to stop having with him.
Ava needs to get her life in order once and for all before she finds herself doing something she never wanted to do – fall in love with a Brony.
This was my first thought when Tara sent me the blurb to Passion and Ponies (which I helped edit! How exciting!).
Passion and Ponies is the second in The Chocoholics Series, the next generation of Chocolate Lovers. You will not really understand the significance of a lot of the book if you don’t read the previous books, but you will still love it. In fact, this may be my favorite of all, because not only was it laugh out loud funny, it was sweet and sensitive too…I guess that’s the Brony influence. What is a brony you ask? It’s an adult male who watches My Little Pony a bit obsessively.
It’s no secret that I have a total girl crush on Tara Sivec. And I’m going to be a whore, and even brag about the fact that we made out. With tongue. Yup, I have witnesses. Wicked Book Weekend was created so I could stalk her. I’m obsessively in love with The Chocolate Lovers and Chocoholics series especially. There is no other book that makes me laugh close to as much. Scary things happen to my body when I read her books. SCARY. THINGS. Most often, my vagina is involved, or somebody’s penis. You can see what happened during Seduction and Snacks here. You can read about the eargasm during Futures and Frosting here. And about my little accident during Troubles and Treats here. You can read the full ‘twatwaffle’ story that happened during Love and Lists here. Apparently, my vagina is completely in tune with Tara’s release dates. It’s like kismet.
Passion and Ponies is about Tyler and Ava. Tyler is the hot but freaky little fuck who is horny as hell. he is also Gavin’s best friend. He used to have a crush on Claire till she set him straight in a scary way. He is having casual hate sex with Ava, Liz and Jim’s daughter. Ava knows he is a My Little Pony freak, and freaky in other ways, but he’s hot and good in bed, so she just can’t stop. Tyler, well he’s just a sweet horny pig, and his nirvana is Seduction and Snacks. Besides My Little Pony, he also watches excessive amounts of porn, and knows every Seduction and Snacks product like the back of his hand.
I swear as soon as I set foot in this place I hear a choir of angels singing. As far as the eye can see, row after row, aisle after aisle, box after box–are sex toys. Metal shelving from floor to ceiling filled with boxes of beautifully crafted love machines. I don’t even realize I’m mumbling until Gavin punches me in the arm.
“Were you just chanting ‘This is my home; this is where I belong’?”
When Gavin warned him not to have sword fights with the dildos, I almost lost it.

Tara and I having a ‘sword fight’ at last year’s Wicked Book Weekend.
But when they realize how perfect he is for the place, Tyler gets the job he deserves. Too bad Ava hated working there. All she wants to do is work in fashion. She has a great fashion blog with the help of Jenny (who thinks it needs porn), but her mom, Liz, keeps putting her down for the foolish idea she is playing around with.
Oh that Tyler…despite being a weird little fucker, you can’t help but like him. And he’s REALLY into sex and making sure “A happy vagina is a happy life”.
We get to see a lot of interaction from our favorite characters from the Chocolate Lovers, and though it may be 25 years later, they are still a bunch of hysterical, immature, funny people.
“Even after twenty some odd years together, Liz still walks funny after we have sex,” Jim admits.
“That’s because you’re doing it wrong and probably fucked her thigh instead of her vagina,” Carter laughs.
When the fist is brought into the picture…well I got kicked out of bed at 4:30 for snort laughing so hard I shook the bed.

I will never be able to unsee what I saw when I googled this.
Did you know they make My Little Pony sex toys? I think these are Seduction and Snacks exclusives!
Tyler and Ava are both at a major crossroads in their lives…switching careers and finally following their dreams, among other things. What starts out as a kind of freaky relationship, turns into something more.
“You drive me crazy, but I have more fun fighting with you than I’ve ever had getting along with anyone else…”
One of my favorite parts recently happened in my house, and when I read it to Mr. Ana, he had to walk away cupping his balls.
“I just thought a little manscaping was in order. You’re considerate enough to get waxed so I won’t yack up a pube when I’m down there, thought I’d return the favor.”
There was another great drunk scene, as well as my favorite cookies. I think the best line may have been here:
“I JUST SAW A GAY PENIS! MAKE IT GO AWAY, MAKE IT GO AWAY!”…
“Honey, my penis is the same as yours.”
“FALSE! My penis prefers the pink and yours likes the stink.”
I don’t want to give away ANY of the story, because it was just so great. You can really see how much Tara has grown as a writer since the first books, because she was able to weave hysterically funny and a sweet, and serious story together perfectly. I absolutely LOVED Passion and Ponies, from the first page of chapter names (which I had to have my son and his best friend read. My son was trying so hard not to laugh because he thinks I’m a freak, but when his friend doubled over in hysterics, he couldn’t stop himself.) to the last page.
Likes:
- The whore made me fall in love with a Brony.
- The plot twist (Which I totally pegged in my review of Love and Lists!)
- The perfect blend of sweet, sexy, and funny as hell.
- Lots more of Gavin and Charlotte.
- Plenty of the older generation of chocolate lovers, who are still as crazy as ever.
- Jenny and Drew still crack me up.
- Molly…this can be interesting!
- I laughed my ass off, and apparently my kegels have worked.
- Tyler’s parents were funny as hell.
Dislikes:
- I was disappointed in Liz’s attitude towards Ava, I hated being mad at Liz.
Rating: 5+++++ Stars (Every book in the series has that!) 4 Heat.
I was a bit concerned at first that Tara may not be able to keep up the level of humor from the other books without going overboard, but I must say, she just keeps getting better. Passion and Ponies turned out to be my favorite, or tied with Seduction and Snacks. It was a perfect blend of funny, stupid, silly, sexy, heartwarming, angsty, and just plain lovable. It was a hell of a story, and I so hope that Molly’s story is next.
