REVIEW RECAP
November 9: A Novel by Colleen Hoover
See my full spoiler free review here or read my mini review below:
Meeting up once a year on the same date sounds like a really good basis for a romance novel. If you fictionalized our story, I’d add it to the top of my TBR.”
Colleen Hoover’s brilliant writing filled with humor, angst, longing and romance is back in full force in November 9. She took a familiar story line (Same Time Next Year & Sleepless in Seattle) and gave it a totally unique twist. I absolutely LOVED Ben. I wasn’t thrilled with Fallon’s decision, but I loved her and loved watching her grow. The bookish tie-ins were brilliant as well. The book was phenomenal on it’s own that it just didn’t need the twist which actually took away a little bit of my love.
Reapers and Bastards: A Reapers MC Anthology by Joanna Wylde
See my full spoiler free review here or read my mini review below:
Either grab it right or move your fuckin’ hand,’’ he growled. “Because I’m about five seconds away from bending you over this table.”
Reaper’s and Bastards is like a gift to all Joanna Wylde Fans, but can also be a great intro to the Reaper’s Series as there are no spoilers for other books. I really enjoyed these snippets, and think the first story, Charming Bastard could have made a great stand-alone. I can’t wait to jump right into Reaper’s Fall now!
Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre
See my full spoiler free review here or read my mini review below:
Don’t do that.”
“What?” He straightened off the porch railing.
“That smile thing. It’s creepy.”
He stopped smiling.
“Ten million Americans would disagree with you.”
“Then ten million Americans are idiots.”
Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre is not your typical Hollywood romance. Though it had a slow start for me, I still devoured the sexy banter and build up of the hate-turned love romance. Hollywood Dirt was filled with lots of humor and great characters, and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a light, fun read that will have you smiling the whole time.
Perfectly Imperfect by Harper Sloan
See my full spoiler free review here or read my mini review below:
I don’t want perfect. What so many see as perfect, to me, is fake. Perfect isn’t achievable naturally…There isn’t beauty in perfection…beauty is found in imperfection”
You see, the way I see it, the only way to become perfect is to find that perfectly imperfect person who brings it out of you.”
#IamWillow. (Or I wish I was!) She was so relatable at the beginning. As a person who deals with body hate every day I totally got her. I am only now starting to accept myself more because I see the beautiful, confident curvy women in our reading community. My husband of 25 years and I have been going through a divorce, and during the time I read this book, he has been trying so hard to get me back, and for the first time in 20 years, I believe him when he says he loves my body. But I don’t think I will ever be totally there. I think everyone has bad days, doubtful days. I even saw Brittany Gibbons, the body positive blogger, admit that she had a day of self loathing the other day when she stood in her closet with nothing to wear.
I love Harper even more than before for writing such a personal, relatable story, but I would have loved it even more if it wasn’t wrapped up in such a perfect bow in the end. Still, Perfectly Imperfect is a book I would recommend to everyone as a must read.
Changing Course: Wrecked and Ruined, Book 1 Audiobook by Aly Martinez
See my full spoiler free review here or read my mini review below:
Oh God…”
“I don’t see anyone named God here, baby. I want you screaming my name when I make you come, not God.”
“Brett.”
“There we go, much better.”
Changing Course can absolutely be read as a standalone. It is completely unique and filled with romance, tragedy, angst, humor, sex, love, and more angst. The characters were flawed and real. You almost get two romances for one in this novel. It feels long and juicy and you really get to know the characters. I can’t wait to read the next in the series, and I’m finding Aly Martinez to be a new favorite author!
Never Let You Go (a modern fairytale) by Katy Regnery
See my full spoiler free review here or read my mini review below
Are you whole or broken?”
“I’m b-broken,” he finally whispered. “But I think I could be whole again.”
Never Let You Go by Katy Regnery had all the makings for one of these epic 5+++ star unforgettable reads. It was an intense roller coaster, a life-long love, a story of danger and excitement that had me on the edge of my seat. But then there were 2 twists that just made it jump the 5++++ ship a little for me. They just took away from the amazing unique tale of a love that transcends time. Still, I can see that Katy Regnery will become a favorite author, her writing is brilliant, and I still very much recommend this story.

2. Perfectly Imperfect by Harper Sloan
**Standalone novel**
Mirror, mirror … who’s the fairest of them all?
I still cringe when I hear that line. A fairy tale that had girls pretending they were the fairest, the most beautiful, and the most entitled. A fairy tale most couldn’t grow out of turned my haunted childhood memories into a living nightmare. Girls who grew up believing that pile of garbage became the meanest of all ‘mean girls.’
And those mean girls were right – it was a line meant for all the beautiful people in the world – and I knew the answer would never be me.
The women with long legs, flat stomachs, and perfect chests.
The type of women Kane Masters gravitated toward.
Well, that’s definitely not Willow Tate.
No. That will never be me.
Because I’m completely imperfect.
And … I hate myself.
I have no idea what Kane could possibly see in someone like me when he could have them.
Everyone with any body issues should read this.

3. The Bad Boy Arrangement by Nora Flite
He doesn’t care what I say, he’s marrying me
It was supposed to be a hookup. That was all.
But when you accidentally sleep with someone like Abell Birch, notorious billionaire player…
Walking away isn’t easy.
He’s perfectly gorgeous, perfectly filthy. Tattoos cover every inch of his muscles, his eyes can burn right through you, and his lips know just where to kiss. A real complete package.
The exact kind of manwhore I hate.
So when my parents pulled out that marriage contract, I thought they were joking.
Marry him? I don’t care how loud he made me beg that one night we spent together. I never want to see his sinful smile again.
But if I don’t marry him, I’ll lose everything. It’s pure blackmail.
Either way, he doesn’t care what I want.
Because he plans to put that ring on my finger…
To make me belong to him…

Buck:
I lost her before. It won’t happen again.
I gave her up and broke her heart for her own good.
Now, my second chance has gone to shit.
Lou’s not the same good girl I left.
She’s turned bad, but it makes me want her more.
The world loves me for my bad boy ways, on screen and off.
They’ll love us together—once I convince her she’s missed me.
Lou:
When I was young, only he saw the real me.
I don’t need Buck Wylder anymore; I’ll take care of myself.
He went to Hollywood. I became a Marine.
Buck’s back and he’s the same arrogant, infuriatingly attractive man who left.
Only this time? I’m not falling for him.
I thought I escaped my past, but when his fame drags
me into the spotlight, the world sees the truth.
I’m poor Loula Mae—daughter of a junkie and her pimp.
To them, I’m just
SO. TRASHY.
**LOU**
Great. First time he sees me in five years—I’m dripping sweat, covered in dirt, and probably stink. I pull open the door and step outside before he can knock.
As he saunters my way, I stand straighter, holding my chin a bit higher. I tuck the hair that’s escaped my loose bun behind my ear and stuff my hands into the front pockets of my cut-offs to hide their trembling.
I glare at his too-gorgeous face—a strong jaw, covered with the perfect amount of stubble, and a nose that’s slightly crooked from the fight he got into with Lonnie Fisher the summer before his junior year. His raven black hair ruffles in the breeze.
Buck stops five feet from me. His turquoise gaze runs from my tits to my toes and back.
One black eyebrow quirks. “Loula Mae.”
I cock my head and narrow my eyes. “You know I hate that name.”
“I’ve always liked it—it suits you.”
His grin might be charming if I didn’t know the damage it precedes.
I clench my teeth.
He’s got to go. Chatting it up with Buck can only lead to problems, and I’ve got way too much to worry about without inviting that shit into my life right now. Hell, not only now—ever.
I prop my fists at my waist. “So, you looking for a suck or a f#ck?”
For the tiniest moment his eyes widen and flash with emotion—surprise? Pain, maybe?
Then, with the slightest shake of his head, he grins. “Wow. I guess the military issued a foul mouth right along with your dog tags. But, since you’re offering—lips or p#$$y, don’t matter to me.”
I fumble for the door handle. “Let me break it down for you. You ain’t gettin’ either from me. So, carry you’re a$$ back to your place or to the whore house over in Slidell. $hit, for all I care, you can trot out to the barn and visit with Aunt Delores’s heifer. But whatever you do, don’t come sniffing around here.”
His grin grows into a full-blown smile, and his eyes crinkle at the corners, a light coming into them as though he welcomes the challenge.

“Marry me.”
“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.
He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”
What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?
Of course, I said yes.
Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.
Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.
I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.
Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.
Answers I can’t give.

10. Sustained by Emma Chase
Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled series, returns with a brand new funny, romantic, sexy story!
A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that—that, I know how to do.
