Ana’s Chrismukkah Favorites Giveaway Day 5 – Favorite Novellas

12/02/2013

Chrismukkah Favorite Novellas

Favorite Novellas

I think writing a good standalone novella is really hard. There are lots of great novellas that are parts of series, but they can’t be read alone. If a novella is really  good, while you may wish it was longer, you still feel like you are satisfied with a good story.

I love a nice short satisfying read. It feels like I knocked one off my gazillion book TBR that I can’t keep track of, and it’s great in between longer books. I’m not really a fan of novella serials. I don’t mind them when they each have their own mini story as part of a larger story…sort of like a TV episode. But I hate when a story is just split into 8 pieces. I don’t have enough of a memory to keep me waiting for the next.

Some novellas are spin-offs from larger series. Those are fun. They can either stand alone, or be a delicious bonus for those who read the series. I will tackle all kinds of novellas here, and I do so even more on my list of Top Picks:Quickies list.

Favorite novellasFinding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover is a FREE book that is a standalone spin-off from one of my favorite series, Hopeless. (See Series order) When I read Losing Hope, the second book, I said to myself that I would love to read more about Daniel. I loved that character! And I also loved Six. Colleen must have heard that a lot, because she brought us a novella that stars the two of them.

Daniel couldn’t help but fall for Six. Here’s why.

“She fist bumped me,” I say pointing at Six. “It’s not my fault. She hates purses and she fist bumped me, then she made me push her on the damn merry-go-around.”

They were perfect together. The two were fun to read about, and I loved the crap out of every 5+++ star second of it. I also added it to my Top Picks: Funny Happy Romance Books list.

1477561_253315628158267_901194651_nThe Girl Next Door Series by C.C. Wood is filled with fun moments, great romance, hot sex, and awesome banter. Each book is between 100 and 150 pages and they just hit the spot. They tell a full, fun light and sexy romance and never left me feeling rushed. Each book is about a completely different couple, but the girls in the first two are BFFs.

“My new neighbor was exactly the kind of man I preferred. He was also exactly the kind of guy who would stomp all over my heart.”

C.C. Wood combined all three Girl Next Door novellas into one big book (which she is giving away here), but you can still buy them alone.

17948528Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye. I actually read this a few years ago, and it still stands out as one of my favorite books. At 100 pages, for this book to still stand out in my mind after years is quite a feat. I often can’t remember  what I read yesterday.

The couple meets and falls for each other while stranded together for 4 hours in a pitch black elevator. With no pre-conceived notions about each others looks, it was a unique melding of souls. Caden is shaved bald, tattooed and pierced. Will Makenna still want him when she sees him?

“Tell me, Red, you gotta say it out loud. I can’t see your face or your eyes, and I don’t want to make any mistakes here.”

One of my favorite reads, despite it’s short length.

Since it’s that time of year, I must also mention 2 awesome Christmas novellas (as well as CC Wood’s mentioned above)

Under the Mistletoe with Me by Kristen Proby (Part of the With Me In Seattle Series) {review}

and

Holiday Bound by Beth Kery {review}

It’s time for you to choose your favorites! I’ll also be adding a few great novella series to this poll.

I must also note the Brie Series by Red Phoenix. Hugely popular, the Brie Series has been released as novellas or 2 big books.

    I LOVE novellas.. Most of the time full sequel books don’t live up to the first one; because the author usually has to make up a long and exaggerated story to fill a full size novel.. That’s where novellas come into play 😉 However the exception to this rule is COLLEEN Hoover.. She should ALWAYS write full size novels.. She is that good 🙂 that being said.. I would DIE for a copy of Finding Conderella in print, I LOVED every page of Daniel and Six, and it left me wanting SO MUCH MORE! Colleen is a genius 😉 <3

I started Throttled by Lauren Asher last year and I started Throttled by Lauren Asher last year and it was taking me forever to read, then the audiobook released and I switched over at about 60%. That’s when the book really picked up for me. The new season of Drive to Survive starts on #netflix next week and #formula1 starts the week after. I’m so excited for the new season!
