Under the Mistletoe With Me by Kristen Proby is a novella meant to be read between Come Away With Me (my review) and Fight With Me (review to come). Personally, I think it’s a super sweet story that stands great all by itself. It doesn’t need to be Christmas to read it either, it never really felt like a Christmas book, it just happened to be Christmastime in the book.
The story is about Isaac and Stacy. Isaac is Jules older brother, and we first meet them in Come Away With Me. Stacy is a book blogger. How cute is that? We really got to know their baby Sophie the most in the first book, who everyone cant stop loving up. Isaac and Stacy have been married 10 years. They worked so hard and struggled to have kids. Having spent years in the baby-making race, and now having a tiny little baby of their own, the spark has gone out of their marriage, like it often does.
“I haven’t felt like myself since the baby came. Our marriage hasn’t felt the same. Since the baby was born, our sex life hasn’t been the greatest. We’re both really tired all the time.”
Isaac is acting strange, and Stacy thinks he may be having an affair after she receives some dirty texts that she suspects aren’t for her. Luckily though, the affair he really wants to have, is with her. This was a lovely story about a couple reconnecting.
When Stacy expresses concern about the changes in her body since having the baby, I love Isaac’s response.
“Look at me.” His hard voice surprises me. “I don’t see the changes, Stace. I see my wife…I’ve been hot for you since the first moment I saw you in that bar in college.”
“Every mark was worth it. Because without them, we wouldn’t have Soph.”
“I know I don’t tell you enough how sexy you are. But don’t ever doubt that I love your body, just the way it is, no matter how it changes.”
Speaking of body…did I tell you about Isaac? Hot tattooed and muscly, just because he’s married for 10 years, doesn’t make him not totally hot! And let me tell you, when this couple reconnects, they do it right. And often.
Marriages are hard, they go through ups and downs. I have been married 23 years, and we have had many highs and lows. So it was lovely reading about a healthy couple who was already strong, reconnecting and realizing how hot they still are together!
