Here it is, a year since I officially made my non-blog a blog. I know, it doesn’t make sense, right? Well, I thought about starting a blog for almost a year….but the research I did turned up so much nastiness and back-stabbing, I didn’t want to get involved in that crap. I ABHOR drama, and never wanted to put myself in a position of attracting it.
But in February of 2012, my husband, a graphic artist, made me a website to sell sexy toys, books and lingerie. (Of course he did, the horny pig.) He wanted me to write little sex toy reviews, give sexy advice, and sell my favorite sexy books. It was a website, not a blog. As one of the very early readers of the Fifty Shades books, I knew I needed to take off from that, because it would be big (hence the name Ana). I knew there must be women like myself everywhere were looking for books just like Fifty Shades, because I had been doing it for the previous 6-8 months, plus news on Fifty Shades, and toys from Fifty Shades. So I started to make lists and write little articles. Like these two:
And one to send your guys:
Once I started writing a lot (mostly reviews), I didn’t know what to do with the stuff I was writing! So in April or May we tried embedding the blog into the website. It was a page within a page, and the functionality was not there. Finally, on June 8th, 2013, I broke the site up and started a real blog….the blog I swore it wasn’t. This is why all of my posts have a very long url. The blog was originally Ana’s Diary, and a small part of a larger site Anas-attic, that also had a bookstore and Red Room of Pain (which still exists, there is lots of good stuff I have spent a ton of time researching, check the categories on the left).
While the original blog was meant to help people find more books like Fifty Shades, I have read so many amazing books since that the focus has completely changed to just great books. I don’t care who publishes the book–indie or traditional. A great book is a great book.
My Top Picks Lists have all of my favorite books in categories: BDSM, Bikers, Rock Stars, New Adult, Funny books, Sexy Books, and more, as well as favorites from certain time periods, like my Best of 2012 list. I also have upcoming releases that I update regularly. And tons of series reading orders that I always add to. I post Freebies and Discounts 1-2 times a week on the blog, and daily on my facebook page and twitter.
In the past year I have had over a half million pages loaded and over 350,000 visitors. That is freaking CRAZY. I am so humbled and overwhelmed by this! I have met so many new people through blogging, I regret letting myself get swayed by the negative. Blogging has been 100% positive for me. I have made friends to last a lifetime, I started another blog, Starting On Monday a few months back, and I also do Wicked Book Events as an excuse to party with my idols, the authors who write these great books. This year has been:
Through it all, my husband has backed me up like crazy and does all of my graphics. He is awesome. Running a blog takes ridiculous amounts of time (I spend 10-12 hours a day, often), and it costs money! But every time you click my links and purchase something, or even click to something else and buy it, I get a few pennies from Amazon. Even when you use my handy dandy Amazon search on the sidebar. It’s not much, but it adds up and allows me to give away gift cards and books to you all! So please, keep clicking! 🙂
