Most Eligible Billionaire by Annika Martin
Narrated by Jason Clarke and Neva Nevarre
Previously titled Most Eligible Bastard
Though the story in Most Eligible Billionaire by Annika Martin sounds silly overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of this story. I listened to this book well over a month ago and I am just catching up on reviews. I didnāt take a ton of notes on this one, but luckily I remember it pretty well and will keep this review brief.
Three years ago Vicky volunteered at a local charity fundraiser by pretending to be a dog whisperer. Bernadette Locke, an eccentric and nasty old billionaire got her little Maltese, Smuckers, read. It meant so much to her that she badgered Vicky to become a regular dog whisperer and caretaker of Smuckers. When Bernadette died, she left her majority share of the family business to Smuckers, and left Smuckers to Vicky, effectively giving it all to Vicky.
Henry Locke, the CEO of the company and New Yorkās most eligible bachelor hasnāt seen his mother in years. But he has worked his ass off for his company, and he is not about to see some gold digger (who he thinks tricked his mother) effectively ruin his company via a DOG. Henry was easy to hate at first, but he grew on me completely.
“Everybody’s looking at me, but it’s Henry gaze I feel, like a silken ribbon on my skin. I don’t dare look at him. He’s a raging inferno of assholishness and powersuitedness with a dash of hotness that makes him…uh.”
There was so much more to this book than a dog running a company and I was pleasantly surprised that not only did I laugh out loud but there was a lot of emotion as well.
Likes:
- The story had a lot more depth and emotion than I expected.
- I loved Vicky right from the start.
- An adorable doggy!
- A few surprises.
- Sexy dominant scenes.
- Great banter.
- Some emotional scenes.
- The art studios.
Dislikes:
- I absolutely hate when an author holds something back about a character that basically explains their motivations. We know we will find out, and I found that waiting to know Vickyās whole background was annoying and not necessary.
- It was a little slow at times then rushed at the end.
- The conflict went on too long.
- It took too long to get over my dislike of Henry (but he totally made up for it!)
The Narration:
I am not sure if I have listened to Neva Nevarre before, but she was great and Iād be happy to hear her do other books, she felt very real to me and had great comedic timing. Jason Clarke was amazing as always. I would definitely recommend listening to this one.
The Down & Dirty:
Most Eligible Billionaire by Annika Martin was an interesting combination of laugh-out-loud funny and real family dysfunction and deep emotion. I was pleasantly surprised by this one and will definitely look into reading more books from Annika Martin.
