He’s Not My Type: Vancouver Agitators Series, Book 4 by Meghan Quinn
Narrated by Erin Mallon and Connor Crais with Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke, JF Harding, and Kelsey Navarro-Foster (Duet style)
Book 4 in a Hockey RomCom series but stands alone fine.
Meghan Quinn is one of my top 5 authors and her mixture of funny, silly, sexy, and emotional gets me every time. I have read almost all of Meghan’s books but I skipped the Vancouver Agitator Series because there are just so many hockey series. But when I heard He’s Not My Type by Meghan Quinn was being narrated by Conner Crais and Erin Mallon with a full cast in duet format, I had to check it out and I am so glad I did!
I loved He’s Not My Type as a standalone, but I think if I read the whole series it would have been even better, and that’s saying a lot. I loved all the other players on the team and now I want to go back and read their stories. I have to mention up front that the narration in He’s Not My Type was so freaking good! The duet style with a full cast brought this book to life in an amazing way and has spoiled me for other audiobooks.
Halsey is one of the star players in the Vancouver Agitators. He lost his twin brother and has withdrawn and become quiet and broody. He’s been secretly pining for Blakely who works in the team’s VIP Relations department, but up until now, she has had a boyfriend. And there is another problem: Halsey gets completely tongue-tied around her.
His meddling teammates hatched a plan, and next thing you know Blakely, who had to move out of her ex’s, is his new roommate! But there is one problem. There is no bed in the guest room. When she finds out Halsey gave her his bed, OMG, I was DYING! I laughed so hard! There were so many fun laugh-out-loud moments in this story while still having emotion and depth. This is exactly why I love Meghan’s writing.
“But if I’ve learned one thing through such devastating loss, it’s that the sun still rises the next day. And the day after that. Life continues its motion. Waiting for your return. It’s okay to stay in that darkness for a while. It’s okay to grieve your loss. Live the pain. Mourn. But then, when you can, it’s time to climb out.”
Oh…and let me tell you, Halsey may be quiet and broody with the team, but in the bedroom he is a demanding dirty-talker, and I am totally here for it.
- The guys’ friendship and texting.
- Halsey loves books.
- Halsey’s dirty talking.
- Scenes that made me literally laugh out loud.
- No unnecessary breakup.
- Amazing banter between the couple and the guys.
- Sherman the plant.
- Cameos from other series.
- The bedroom scenes.
- The narration.
- So many P names had me confused (Posey, Penny, Pacey, Perry…)
- Her friends were a little selfish in their reaction to her job.
- I’ve noticed this before in Meghan’s books: there is no suggestion of therapy.
- Though the sex scenes were hot, they just never really worked with his out-of-the-bedroom persona.
- OMG I hated his mother too much.
Wow Wow Wow. Erin Mallon is my favorite narrator, and she could have carried this book herself and it would have been great. But Conner Crais was also fantastic. Add to that the side characters played by Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke, JF Harding, and Kelsey Navarro-Foster, and you’d think you can’t get better, but oh…it does. He’s Not My Type was also narrated in full-cast duet style, so it sounded like a movie. I loved how the text threads were voiced by each guy. This was one of my favorite narrations.
