Getting Real (Getting Some #3) by Emma Chase
Narrated by Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber
3rd in a series of related standalone. Romance with some comedy.
Emma Chase is a top 5 author for me and has been since she released Tangled in 2013. (I canāt wait for the Passionflix movie coming February 3rd!) The Getting Some series is amazing. I loved the first two in the series, Getting Schooled and Getting Played, but this one, Getting Real, is my favoriteāand thatās saying a lot, because I absolutely loved the first two.
Dr. Connor Daniels is an ER doctor and a 42-year-old single dad to 3 boys ages 10-17. Violet Robinson is a 30-year-old ER nurse who is crushing on him hard (who can blame her?). She is a fantastic nurse, but whenever she is around Dr. Daniels she turns into a clumsy idiot. He has noticed her, but assumed that with the 12-year age gap and the fact that he had three kids, she wasnāt even a possibility. Until they get set up to go to a wedding together.
You guys, Getting Real is the perfect name for this book! It felt REAL. Nothing was over-the-top, it all just felt so natural and normal! Violet and Connor had such great communication (after a few hiccups) and the three boys had such realistic personalities. They also all had realistic flaws.
āThere is nothing on earth thatās hotter, nothing more arousing- than a woman who is hungry for you and not ashamed to show it.ā
There were so many amazing family scenes, and I loved the interactions with the kids, but there was definitely time for sexy times, and Emma Chase brought out the big guns there as well.
āAnd then -brace yourself- Connor Daniels blows on me. And I almost orgasm on the spot.ā
It wasnāt just the sex scenes, it was the way the whole story just built up to this real blending of a perfect family. Getting Real also brought more emotion than the first two books. It had me sobbing more than once. And as the single mom of two young men, I understood all the love and fears.
Likes:
- It all felt so organic and real.
- I laughed, I cried, I swooned.
- A single dad with teen kids is my kryptonite.
- I really liked the hospital scenes.
- The family interactions. I loved the brothers.
- The crossovers from the first 2 books, though you didnāt have to read or remember them to love this.
- The reminder that age is just a number.
Dislikes:
- I loved everything, nothing to dislike at all.
The Narration:
Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber are two of my favorite narrators and they were fantastic here. But Zachary went above and beyond here. Not only was he amazing at Connorās voice, but he had three distinctive and separate voices for the boys which really helped me to get to know them each as individuals. I think this is my favorite of his works.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 5 stars, 4 Heat, 5+ Narration
