Ana’s Chrismukkah Favorites Giveaway Day 6 – Favorite New Adult Novels

12/03/2013

Favorite New Adult Novels

Favorite New Adult Novel

This was the hardest category, hands down. I am weird about NA romances. I actually dread reading them, and when I do, they turn out to be the best books ever! They are so often completely gutting, yet magical at the same time. Sometimes I find them a little difficult to read because I have a teenaged son, and it hits a little to close to home. I don’t want to read about teenagers doing it! But then once I am hooked into the story there is no going back.

My definition of New Adult: Books about 18-21 year olds who are broken and healed by love. Books that GUT you and put you back together again. Some of the best books I ever read.

I made a list of my top 20 (in no particular order) New Adult books and Series here. For this contest I will focus on the three I am giving away, but that list is almost ALL 5 STAR BOOKS, so check it out.

Although I am not giving away one of her books in this giveaway, because she is giving one in yesterday’s giveaway (novellas), I MUST mention Colleen Hoover here. You can’t even talk about New Adult without discussing the queen of it. I have read 6 books by Colleen Hoover and every one of them was a 5+++++ star rating, and they are all New Adult.

Chrismukkah Top NA booksWatch Over Me by Tara Sivec:  This story is so real, so gutting, so genuine, this came from deep within. It almost feels like we are reading private journals, it’s so blindingly honest. Yes, it is a tearjerker at times, but you will feel hope. After all, this book is about healing and moving on.

Tara Sivec, who writes my favorite funny book, The Chocolate Lovers,  was able to take my emotions and just squeeze. I absolutely loved this book. Filled with incredible quotes, and despite tragedy, a very hopeful feel, it’s a must read. My favorite part was the use of Legos as a metaphor for life:

“And if something doesn’t fit, if one of your pieces just isn’t working, you can put it aside and find another one. There are so many pieces to work with that you don’t have to try and force one in where it doesn’t belong. You may not need that piece right now, and it may not be helping you right at this moment, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important and won’t fit somewhere else down the line when you need it more.”

Chrismukkah New AdultLeft Drowning by Jessica Park pulled every emotion possible out of me. It was so well written that I feel no review can do it justice. You can tell this one took a lot out of the author to write. Jessica Park knows how to write a unique story that is completely addicting. She took what could be depressing and made it delightful. She knows just when you’ve had too much and turns it around on you. I think the dedication of Left Drowning really speaks well for the book.

“This book is for everyone who has survived. You are not broken. You can love and be loved, despite what may feel like the eternally brutal nature of the world. Even when you’re drowning and so far under, there is always time to reach for someone who will teach you how to breathe again.”

I must mention here that Jessica’s other NA books Flat Out Love and Flat Out Matt are also 5+++ star reads.

Chrismukkah New Adult booksFalling Into You by Jasinda Wilder broke me, then put me back together again. I cried the ugly, tears. The wracking sobs…and I started to text Jasinda nasty messages. But even so, it was amazeballs.

There is heartache, loss, forgiveness, passion, guilt…and so much love. And the sex was off-the-charts hot.

I absolutely loved this book. It was the perfect blend of searing emotions, healing, love, loss, friendship, heartbreak, hot sex and so much more. Jasinda hit this one so far out of the park, that ball isn’t coming back.

“When we come together, when we kiss, when we drowse into sleep side by side, we’re falling into each other, and that’s when I’m okay When I’m falling into him.”

This book stands alone  but was followed up with a spin off Falling Into Us (my review).

I have such a problem picking a favorite book because I truly love so many of them for different reasons. For example, I love Travis Maddox for his bad boy with a heart of gold but Will in Slammed is so loving and caring that they both have equal standing in my BB. Also, it might change with my mood of the day. Today, I was feeling Tabitha Vargo’s Blow Hole Boys are such sexy tormented rockers that I voted for them but mainly because I think they need more recognition. So the answer to my favorite today would be them but I truly love all of them.

The Blow Hole Boys by Tabatha Vargo is truly awesome. I have to think that the reason it’s getting so few votes is because people haven’t read it yet. If you haven’t read it, pick it up! It’s really great

Gotta admit I’m not a huge fan of the genre, but I liked a select few that I managed to swallow. Cora Carmack writes stories that are light-hearted enough even for me. I liked Faking It more than Losing It for some unknown reason. Most of the NAs I have, which surprisingly include all those in the poll choices, are stuck in my TBR list. Someone needs a spankin’ to get to ’em. XD

The town of Misted Pines is a bit crazy, but let me tell you, if there is another dead resident, I’ll be gobbling up that story as well. I don’t wish anyone dead but…..

Sometimes a book that works for everyone else just Sometimes a book that works for everyone else just doesn’t hit me right. I had really high hopes for this book about a marriage in trouble, especially because I really like the author. Sadly, it just didn’t work for me.

I love the unique storyline of this debut solo nov I love the unique storyline of this debut solo novel from Joe Arden, and I especially love when the narrator narrates their own book and I love male POV books written by an actual male! I had a few issues (which you’ll see in the review), but overall I really enjoyed this one, and it is staying in my memory because it was different.

Do you love cooking reality shows? If so, you shou Do you love cooking reality shows? If so, you should check out Sadie on a Plate by Amanda Elliot. I loved being behind-the-scenes at a cooking reality show! There is a romance, but it’s way more about the exciting cooking show. The heroine is Jewish and there is a very diverse cast.

I started Throttled by Lauren Asher last year and I started Throttled by Lauren Asher last year and it was taking me forever to read, then the audiobook released and I switched over at about 60%. That’s when the book really picked up for me. The new season of Drive to Survive starts on #netflix next week and #formula1 starts the week after. I’m so excited for the new season! I am hoping that more of this series releases on audio soon because I love being in the #F1 world.

Another book I really wanted to love, but it was j Another book I really wanted to love, but it was just OK for me. I did love the heroine’s business of awesome salads in a cup! A Guide to Being Just Friends by Sophie Sullivan was not labeled as book 3 in a series, and it was. Though it was able to stand alone, I think I missed a connection because I didn’t read the first two.
