Spooktacular Halloween Reads

Just in time for Halloween! Here is a list of some of my favorite spooky and/or paranormal reads.

Favorite Spooktacular Paranormal Series:
Experiment in Terror Series – Karina Halle

Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror #1)
FREE!

Red Fox (Experiment in Terror #2)

The Benson (Experiment in Terror #2.5)

Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror #3)

Lying Season (Experiment in Terror #4)

On Demon Wings (Experiment in Terror #5)

Old Blood – A Novella (Experiment in Terror #5.5)

The Dex-Files (Experiment in Terror #5.7)

Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror #6)

And With Madness Comes the Light (Experiment in Terror #6.5)

Come Alive (Experiment in Terror #7)

Ashes to Ashes (Experiment in Terror #8)

Dust to Dust (Experiment in Terror #9)

I simply adore this series by Karina Halle. There were MANY parts were I freaked myself out during the course of reading. I would certainly recommend reading this with a nightlight! In addition to the spooktacular awesomeness of this series, there is also the romance aspect too….aahhhh Dex and Perry! A perfect blend of suspense, creepiness, angst, and romance …and the series is now complete!

Favorite Paranormal Romance Series
Ghosts and Reincarnation Series – Kristen Ashley

Penmort Castle

Fairytale Come Alive
ADORE this book!

Lucky Stars

Everything Kristen Ashley writes is like gold to me…but I was apprehensive of reading her paranormal. I’m really not sure why. But then, I did, and I was like, “WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG!” I loved these books. They do not have to be read in order, but there are mutual side characters in a couple. My favorite in this series is Fairytale Come Alive. If you do not get anything else…GET THIS BOOK.

Favorite YA Paranormal Series
Darkest Powers Trilogy – Kelly Armstrong

The Summoning (Darkest Powers, Book 1)

The Awakening (Darkest Powers, Book 2)

The Reckoning (Darkest Powers)

I read this series a long while back (as in I read the hard cover books!) and I really enjoyed it. There were definitely parts that creeped the shit out of me! I scared myself silly. There is a small romantic element; however, it is a YA, so no straight up sexy time. If you are looking for a book that will give you the willies and has a great story line, this one is for you!

Favorite “Gave Me Goosebumps” Series
Seasons of Deception Series by Adam Kunz

One Tiny Secret

Two Little Lies (Seasons of Deception Book 2)

This one was a fantastic mystery read for me. I found myself scooching in to my husband while sitting on the couch reading it. This series is NA, so there are steamy scenes, but nothing too smutty. I really enjoyed this one!

Favorite “Why the Fuck Am I Reading This In The Dark” Book of All Time
The Shining – Stephen King

On sale for $1.99!

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”….enough said. Jeeezus H. This book is a masterpiece of creepiness!

Favorite Vampire Series
Twilight Saga – Stephanie Meyer

Twilight (The Twilight Saga Book 1)

New Moon (The Twilight Saga Book 2)

Eclipse (The Twilight Saga Book 3)

Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga Book 4)

This series will always hold a special place in my heart. It opened me up to reading again! If you haven’t read it yet, you really need to. It is a fantastic story!

Favorite Underworld/Shadowhunter Series (YA)
The Mortal Instruments Series – Cassandra Clare

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments Book 1)

City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments Book 2)

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments Book 3)

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments Book 4)

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments Book 5)

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments Book 6)

GAH! I loved this series! So much going on…I loved diving into the world of shadowhunters. This is truly an amazing series, if you enjoy books about the underworld, shadowhunters, vampires, warlocks, fae, and demons. It is YA, so again, no straight up smut; but the romance portion of this series is pretty fantastic. I love Jace and Clary!

#1 on My TBR for Paranormal Spookiness
Mara Dryer Trilogy – Michelle Hodkin

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (The Mara Dyer Trilogy Book 1)

The Evolution of Mara Dyer (The Mara Dyer Trilogy Book 2)

So, I haven’t read this one, but it is HIGH on my TBR for paranormal awesomeness. I have heard amazing things about this series, and I will be reading it very soon!!

Hi! Ana here!

I don’t want to take over Megan’s post, and I don’t do scary books or even movies, but I have to mention a few of my favorite paranormal series here. As much as I LOVE the Twilight Series, which actually brought back my love for reading, my favorite Vampire Series is tied between The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost & The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward.

The Night Huntress Series (series order) features the same couple in each book battling ghosts, ghouls and all sorts of scary shit. It’s sexy, it’s fun, and I absolutely LOVE that series. The Black Dagger Brotherhood (series order) is filled with all kinds of Alpha Vampires who secretly protect humans from another bad race. Each book features a different vampire’s love story.

Another mention is CC Wood’s Bitten Series, Bite Me (my review) & Once Bitten, Twice Shy (my review).  They aren’t really scary, more fun and sexy, but I love them, and a character is modeled after me so they must be mentioned.

Last, I have to mention Karen Marie-Moning’s FEVER series (series order) because these are scary as shit, and totally awesome and sexy books where Fae start taking over the world.

Last, I need to mention a pre-order where all proceeds go to CHARITY!

***PRE-ORDER PRICE OF $2.99 UNTIL October 13***
100% of all proceeds go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital! #1CLICK-IT!

I live for this time of year and all the great holidays!!! I grew up on scary movies and books. My mom and I loved scary movies and watched them all the time. I then in turn watched them with my kids when they were small. There are really only 2 scary/horror books that ever really gave me a moments pause or two and they were Stephen King’s “It” and “The Hunger” by Whitley Strieber. I still really those two books completely. Thx!

In 2022, the entire Tattered and Torn series released, and I loved every single one of them. I listened to them all on audio, and they each deserve a place on my Best of 2022 list, especially Fractured Sky, which I gave a rare 5+++ stars to.

They also have the most beautiful covers!

The first two audiobooks in this unrelated series The first two audiobooks in this unrelated series were on my Best of 2021 List, and Seatmate by @carabastone has continued the streak for my Best of 2022 list. The full cast narration and the production of this “audioplay” is what made Seatmate a 5-star read for me. I really felt like I was eavesdropping on a real conversation. This was a quick and fun listening experience, and though it’s nothing epic, it stood out to me in 22.

I enjoyed The Back Nine by Rachel Blaufeld. It’s I enjoyed The Back Nine by Rachel Blaufeld. It’s rare to find books about older couples and I so appreciate when an author writes a sexy one. I had a couple of issues with it, and I really struggled with the heroine’s name, James. Every time I read her name (and the female MC for the next book is Billy) my brain had to catch up for a second that it was a girl.

Top Pick of 2022: @kristenashleybooks has been on Top Pick of 2022: @kristenashleybooks has been on all 11 lists (since 2012), and for good reason!
Taking the Leap by Kristen Ashley is my favorite book she has written in a while. It very much focuses on Alex and Rix and it didn’t feel like I had to remember a ton of other characters. I felt their chemistry and how perfect they are for each other.
I love how Kristen handled a disabled hero. This is one you don’t want to miss! Have you read it yet?

Another Top Pick of 2022! The Love Hypothesis by @ Another Top Pick of 2022! The Love Hypothesis by @alihazelwood lived up to all the hype. I absolutely loved the smart, slow-burn romance that subtly addressed a lot of issues without ever banging you over the head with them. This is one of those books you might be able to recommend to even the non-romance reader even though it’s very much a romance. It just has that “something special”.

I am usually very stingy with my five star reads, I am usually very stingy with my five star reads, but A Long Time Coming by @meghanquinnbooks had everything I ever want in a book. Lia and Breaker’s nerdy friendship morphed into such a great romance, but it took its time, and I loved that; I thought the pace was just perfect. I listened to A Long Time Coming with a HUGE smile on my face the whole time. If I could hug this audiobook I would!

The duet narration from @mallonerin and @j.f.harding made it even better.

The Other Half of the Grave by @jfrostauthor is an The Other Half of the Grave by @jfrostauthor is another of my top reads for 2022.

I read the first book of the Night Huntress Series, Halfway to the Grave in 2009, and I can honestly say it’s still in my top 3 series ever, so when I saw she was writing the first book again from the male POV this time, I was a little nervous but also excited. Thankfully I had nothing to be nervous about! I absolutely LOVED it and I am so glad to hear she is continuing to do Bone’s POV for the 2nd book as well!

Another 2022 Top Favorite is Carrie Soto is Back b Another 2022 Top Favorite is Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I am still blown away by the fact that this non-tennis fan loved this all-tennis book so much. I loved that Carrie Soto is Back tackled so many issues women in sports face, especially women of color. This powerful story really illustrated the costs of greatness, and the sacrifices one needs to make in order to make it to the top. The narration made it even better, and the tennis had me on the edge of my seat! (I don’t even like tennis!)
