June 2017 Recap and Bestsellers

07/03/2017

Here is my recap of all my my June reviews. I read a lot more than this, but those reviews will be up this month. This is the first month ever, I think, that I don’t have a book under 4 stars. But I must admit, because I have been so behind on my reading, I chose “sure things” for June, authors I have loved in the past and expected great things from, in fact, all but one was written by authors in my top 10 favorites. And let me tell you, they all lived up to my expectations! What a great reading month.

The bestsellers are based on paid books purchased from links on Ana’s Attic.

Book Review – Shacking Up by Helena HuntingSTARS_4.25FLAMES_4

“I certainly wouldn’t mind spending time with him, naked, in his bed, playing hide and seek with his penis in my vagina.”

Shacking Up was a fun, sexy romcom with Helena Hunting’s signature humor where the heroine has no filter, which I loved. This was a slow burn, with the couple apart for the first 80% or so of the book, only talking, texting and facetiming. I really loved the slow build, but I would have liked to see more of the in-person connection. While it isn’t the most memorable book, Shacking Up was a solid, fun, quick romcom standalone that I enjoyed in one day.

Book Review – The Farthest Edge by Kristen AshleySTARS_4.5

“He’s the badass motherfucker the baddest badass motherfucker wished he was,” G whispered.

After not totally connecting to The Deep End (though I still liked it a lot), I was a little concerned about The Farthest Edge, but I didn’t need to be, it was classic KA with some kinky sex thrown in. I totally loved Evangeline and Branch and how they treated each other. I really enjoyed the secondary characters in this one, including visiting with Olly and Amelie. I totally recommend The Farthest Edge, even if you weren’t in love with The Deep End.

Book Review – The Story of Us by Tara SivecSTARS_4.5FLAMES_4

“You came back here for the girl who could dance. The girl who fought to make her dreams come true, and I’m not that person anymore. I don’t even know who she is.”

Tara Sivec has brought us another emotional powerhouse featuring a soldier with PTSD, but that’s where the similarities end. The Story of Us has a number of interesting and unexpected turns, but it’s so clear that these two are meant to be—you just have no doubt they will find a way to make it work despite the curveballs life keeps throwing at them. While I didn’t quite get the epic feels as I did in Fisher’s Light, The Story of Us came pretty close. Once again, Ms. Sivec delivers us a unique read filled with emotion, drama, love, sexy times and lots of mysterious twists and turns.

Audiobook Review – Preppy, Part Three by T.M. FrazierFLAMES_4.25

“Preppy and I were our own train. And if we were going to derail, we were going to do it together, connected, with each other’s name on our lips.”

I couldn’t have wished for a better end to the King Series than Preppy, Part Three: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater. Though it was a little lighter, sweeter and more nostalgic than previous books, it left the reader with a super satisfying end to the series where all the loose ends are tied up. Though I hesitated to read T.M. Frazier at the beginning because I thought she was too dark for me, she has become one of my top 5 authors, and Preppy, Part Three just cemented that love.

Audiobook Review – Joy Ride by Lauren Blakely

“She makes me lose focus. She makes me want to be with her. She makes me fucking feel. And that’s the problem. I feel something for her. But I want her more than I don’t want all the fucking complications.”

Joy Ride by Lauren Blakely is another amazing addition to her catalogue of Romantic Comedies, and even more to her list of male POV romcoms. This enemies to lovers story is filled with all that I love about Lauren Blakey’s books: humor, hotness, banter, respect for women, and a no holds-barred romance. Lauren can release a book weekly (it seems like she does!) and I will drop everything and read it. THIS is why I love reading. Lauren’s feel-good romances are the perfect reads for me in every way.

Audiobook Review – Buns by Alice ClaytonSTARS_4.5FLAMES_4

He gazed down at me, an expression I couldn’t quite identify on his face. “You’re a bit wonderful.”

Once again, Alice Clayton brings us a witty, smart, well-written, well-paced book filled with fun banter, characters you relate to, an amazing town, great side characters, emotion, and just the right amount of angst. I love how much research Alice puts into her books. I felt she really understood both the old Catskill resorts as well as what they need to do to modernize and I really loved that part of the story, but I am glad it never overshadowed the romance. It was the perfect blend of work and play. I’m hoping this isn’t the last we see of Bailey Falls, but if it is, I trust that whatever Alice brings us next will be just as good, if not better.

Book Review – Hot Cop by Laurelin Paige and Sierra SimoneSTARS_4.25

“You’re mine, princess. You were mine the moment you let me feel your bare pussy in that restaurant. You were mine the moment you let me kiss you so dirty outside of it. And you were definitely mine when you came around my cock and hoped I’d put a baby inside you.”

Damn, Laurelin and Sierra make a great team for writing breathlessly sexy men and smart, feisty heroines. Hot Cop was not only one of the hottest books I have read so far this year, but I may have shed a few sappy emotional tears at the end when I realized it was more than just a sexy read, but a heartwarming, fun and sexy romance. The complete package.

Audiobook Review – The Knocked Up Plan by Lauren BlakelySTARS_4.5FLAMES_4.25

“This man is obsessed with my pleasure. Its his drug, his addiction, and I want to give him his fix. I want the fix too.”

Once again, Lauren Blakely brings the perfect blend of humor, heart and heat to a novel filled with intelligent characters, great banter and huge amounts of chemistry. The Knocked Up Plan is the perfect example for why Lauren Blakely has become one of my top 5 authors, and I will not miss one of her books.

Audiobook Review – The Real Dirty Duet by Meghan MarchSTARS_4.5

“What makes you think I’m going to hurry a damn thing? You’re meant to be savored, Sugar, and all this sweetness is mine.”

Though I don’t love the fact that I have to purchase 2 audiobooks to get the full story, I do like the fact that this gives Megan the time and space to really craft a story with depth and character growth. There was a lot of story in the Real Dirty Duet (as well as a LOT of hot and SEXY!). It was a full and complete story with well fleshed out characters, fun banter, mystery and excitement, and amazingly hot and dirty sex that enhanced and never overwhelmed the story. Add to that the amazing narration of Sebastian York and Elena Wolfe and you have an addictive and delicious audiobook duet that I stayed up all night listening to.

1. HOT COP by Laurelin Paige & Sierra Simone

You have the right to remain sexy.

Anything you say can and will be used to get you in my bed.

You have the right to use my body to give yourself a delirious, life-changing orgasm.

If you have trouble…don’t worry, I’m a bit of an expert in that department.

There’s nothing ‘thin’ about my blue line, if you catch my drift, and trust me, I know how to put those handcuffs to good use.

***

Livia Ward wants a baby before she’s thirty. And even though Officer Chase Kelly is exactly the kind of cocky jerk this librarian has sworn off, he is undeniably hot. Both of them think they can give each other what they want–a few nights of fun for Officer Kelly, a no-strings baby for Livia–but this hot cop is about to learn that sex, babies, and love don’t always play by the rules.

2.THE LAST GUY by Ilsa Madden Mills & Tia Louise

The first rule of office romance is don’t do it–especially if your dream is to hold the anchor spot on the nightly news and your boss is trying to get you fired.

But one look at Cade Hill, the sexy new sports director, and uptight reporter Rebecca Fieldstone is daydreaming about other things.

Sex in his office…
Sex in the on-set kitchen…
Sex in the supply closet…

She can’t stop thinking about the former NFL quarterback and how perfect he’d look between her sheets–except he’s an arrogant jerk with a huge… ego.

He’s the last guy she’d ever have a one-night stand with.

Cade Hill draws a thick professional line on office romance–until it comes to the hyper-focused Rebecca. He wants her, and he gets his wish when a chance encounter has them having the hottest sex of their lives.

It’s just a hook-up, she says.
When can we do it again? he says.

With Rebecca determined to keep Cade in the friend zone, it’s going to be an uphill battle for Cade to convince her he’s the last guy she’ll ever want.

THE LAST GUY is the first white-hot CONTEMPORARY ROMANTIC COMEDY from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills and Tia Louise. It features Fireball-fueled hookups, Doritos Locos Tacos, attack monkeys, toddlers in tiaras, and one fabulous drag queen. Prepare for frantic clicking (or page flipping!) and smoking-hot sexytimes all the way to the out-of-this-world happily-ever-after.

3.The Knocked Up Plan by Lauren Blakely

There are three little words most guys don’t want to hear on the first date. Not those…I mean these… “knock me up.”
This single gal has had enough of the games, the BS and the endless chase. I know what I want most, and it’s not true love. It’s a bun in the oven, and I’m not afraid to hit up my sex-on-a-stick co-worker to do the job. Ryder is gorgeous, witty and charming — and he’s also a notorious commitment-phobe. That makes him the perfect candidate to make a deposit in the bank of me.
I won’t fall for him, he won’t fall for me, and there’s no way baby will make three.
Right?
****
There are four words every guy wants to hear on the first date — “your place or mine?”
When my hot-as-sin co-worker makes me a no-strings-attached offer that involves her place, my place, any place — as well as any position — I can’t refuse. Besides, I’ve got my own reasons to take her up on her deal even with her one BIG condition.
There’s no way I’ll want more from one woman than any position, any where, any night? Except . . . what if I do?

There were no cell phones or internet or google when she left me and I never knew why she walked away from our relationship. I loved her, like head-over-heels crazy loved her. And when she walked out on me at the end of our freshman year, without even a goodbye, she broke my heart.

9.The Story of Us: A heart-wrenching story that will make you believe in true love by Tara Sivec

How much can a man take before he breaks?

1,843 days. That’s how long I survived in that hellhole. They tried to break me, but I resisted. And I owe it all to the memory of warm summer nights, the scent of peaches, and the one woman who loved me more than I ever deserved to be loved. Now, I’ll do anything to get back to her.

Only Shelby Eubanks isn’t the girl I left behind all those years ago. She’s someone else, a stranger. My Shelby-my little green-eyed firecracker-would never give up her dreams, would never disappear into her mother’s ambitions. But I won’t give up on her. On us. I may be broken, and scarred, and not the man I used to be, but I will do whatever it takes to remind her of the story of us.

10.Cutslut by Kim Jones

I’m that girl.
No…I’m not.

They want their title.
I don’t.
They’re proud to belong.
I’m not.
They chose this life.
I didn’t…

My name is Winter Tews.
I am a thief. Liar. Traitor. Con.
The enemy is my lover.
I am his Cutslut.

And this is my story.

Damn right she’s not that girl.
They’re sugar and spice. She’s misery and sin.
And I want her.
Not to hold. Not to cherish. Not to love and honor and respect.
I want to break her. Hurt her. Destroy her. Just like she destroyed me.
She’s my brother’s sister.
My enemy’s Cutslut.
But soon…
She’ll be mine.

I started Throttled by Lauren Asher last year and I started Throttled by Lauren Asher last year and it was taking me forever to read, then the audiobook released and I switched over at about 60%. That’s when the book really picked up for me. The new season of Drive to Survive starts on #netflix next week and #formula1 starts the week after. I’m so excited for the new season!
