Speed Dating #1 by by Dawn Robertson, Tabatha Vargo and Melissa Andrea
1st novella in a serial, funny erotic romance.
While I usually don’t love serials, I do love funny books. So when I saw there was a funny book from 3 amazing authors, I had to buy it. After reading an incredible, mind twisting book, I needed some fun and lightness and Speed Dating hit the spot. I definitely found myself giggling and laughing out loud at times. and it was a quick read-in-one-day read.
I had no idea how the book was ‘split up’ amongst the authors, and I have no clue how they wrote it together. I had thought that maybe each one would write a different story in the series, or at least write different characters, but I don’t think this is the case, though I could be very wrong. Because at times, I actually felt another author step in. The style just changed from sweet to sillier, or more shocking. But I must say, it didn’t really take away the fun of reading it. You can call it “The Many Sides of Jules”. It’s not like you can tell an exact moment of change, and honestly, had I not seen the 3 author’s names on the cover, I may not have picked up on it. And I must say, I enjoyed all three sides.
Jules, the first person narrator, wasn’t always a slut. But after finding her boyfriend of seven years “getting ass pounded by another man” in her bed, and getting blamed for his being boring in bed, Julia decides to change things up. But after a shit-ton of disastrous one-night-stands, Julia doesn’t know what she’s doing wrong, but she decides to take a break from the first night fucks.
“I’m not letting another man near my pretty girl play hole without the promise of a ring.”
Her fun and outrageous besties have their own dating horror stories, but Jules’s are the worst, and she relives the gory details with her friends and the adorable married bartender, Sam (who I have a total crush on–so did Jules, but his wedding band means ‘hands off’ and she respected that). Even after the losers, Jules hasn’t lost hope.
“He’s out there somewhere, Sam. I just haven’t found him yet. Meanwhile, I’ll go through all the duds until I find the diamond.”
When her best friend asks her to try speed dating at their local bar, Jules reluctantly agrees.
“But tonight wasn’t about relaxing. It was about getting drunk enough to tolerate half the men in the room long enough to figure out if they were Mr. Right, Mr. Right now, or Mr. Holy Shit You’ll Be Single For Life.”
Well, Jules vow of stopping sleeping around doesn’t last long, because:
“I said I was over the bed hopping, but Jesus I needed a hard cock in my lady love garden.”
And I’m telling you, her experience as a cougar had me laughing out loud, waking my husband at 3am.
Flying Seahorse and Pocket Douche Monkey. I won’t say any more.
When Mr. Almost Perfect strolls into the bar he was everything Jules had ever wanted…almost.
I can’t wait to see what happens next. I NEEEEEED it!
Likes:
- A fun, quick read.
- Made me snort-laugh.
- I learned some new expressions.
- I have a total crush on both Samuel and Daniel.
- I love books with a zany group of friends (there is always a total ho).
- It left me wanting more.
Dislikes:
- 3 authors, and I think maybe they decided not to use an editor. There were a lot of mistakes for such a short book. And this is a purchased copy, not a review copy.
- It seemed like maybe I ‘felt’ the different authors within Jules.
- No idea when the next two books are coming out.
Rating: 4 Stars, 3.5 Heat
Speed Dating is definitely a fun series I plan on continuing. I love the idea of 3 authors collaborating, but I do think that it may work better if they each write a character. I could be wrong, but there seemed to be changes in Jules from sweet to funny to silly to raunchy. Still, it was a fun, silly, dirty group of friends, with an angsty romance. I will most likely read Speed Dating 2 on release day.
