I think Pucked by Helena Hunting was the book that finally made it clear to me that romantic/erotic comedy is my favorite read. (You’d think I know this already). I read to be happy. I love to smile. I love to read about characters I want to hang out with. Since I tend to be a goofy asshole with 12 year old boy humor and “That’s what she said” jokes, I love to read about other goofballs. Pucked was filled with the sweet and silly. Perfect.

It took me a little bit to warm up. It started right away with Violet “Jilling off” (I love that expression!) to a magazine ad guy with a milk mustache.

And her mother walks in. Violet lives in her mom and stepdad’s pool house. Her stepbrother is a pro hockey player.

SCREEEEEEEEECH!!!! Woah….stepbrother? That was my first thought. But don’t worry, it’s not a stepbrother book! {breaths a sigh of relief, because I was really digging the writing style and humor.} Then I pass that hurdle, and BAM! I’m hit with a comedy bit that is a big part of my favorite series. So I’m 2% in, and I’m worried Pucked might have a lot of the same comedy things I’ve been seeing a lot of lately, and I start to get a little more concerned. But I continued.

I am so freaking glad I did, because I pucking loved it!!

Violet went on a trip with her mom and stepdad to see her stepbrother’s away game, when her eyes meet with the gorgeous yet slightly familiar captain of the team, Alex Waters. Violet may like to look, but she has sworn off whoring hockey players for life, and Alex Waters has quite the reputation. (If you know your hockey terminology…think “hat trick”). But when he goes to talk to her at the after-party, Violet recognizes him as he sips his milk.

As they began to chat, their conversation was making me laugh. Violet has absolutely NO FILTER. Part of the fun of reading this is wondering what will come out of her mouth next. Or into it, because even the “mouth fucking” was hot. As soon as this line was spoken, I knew I’d love the book for sure.

QUOTE MARKUnderstandable, really. Moist is a terrible word.”
“So true. It should only be used to describe the consistency of cake.” 

As Alex and Violet’s talking and mouth fucking got dirtier, it also got funnier…and hotter.

QUOTE MARKWhat is that?” The question is inane. But, honestly, what the fuck am I supposed to do with this?
Alex chuckles nervously. As is appropriate since I’m holding his dick and I’m clearly not sane.
“I mean, I know what it is. Obviously. Do you have some kind of . . . disorder? Like elephantiasis of the penis or something?” I did not say that out loud.
“It’s not that big.” His erection slides in my grip. I can’t stop staring. My thumb and middle finger must have a good inch or more before they can meet. I squeeze to see if it helps bring them closer together. It doesn’t. What it does is make Alex groan, and that, oh holy monster of cock, is one hot noise.” 

Violet worships Alex’s uncut cock. After a brief period of naming it after Snuffleupagus, she calls it “Monster Cock” or MC for short, and it becomes almost like a third character in the story. But it’s fair, because Alex loves her boobs so much he often talks to them directly.

Alex was not the guy that the media made him out to be. After spending his childhood figure skating, he had no issue with the media thinking he fucked every woman that moved. But he was actually smart and adorably awkward.

“Pardon?”
“Sorry, nothing. I didn’t mean to ask that. It just came out. I’m sorry.”
And here I thought I was the awkward one. Maybe Alex is drunk dialing me. I go with it, lowering my voice to what I hope is a sultry whisper. “Do you want to know what I’m wearing?”
“Yes. No. Is this a trick question? Only if you won’t hang up on me for saying yes, otherwise no.”
He’s cute, even for a manwhore.”

There was one scene especially that had be giggling like an idiot.

Likes:

  • Laughed out loud a number of times.
  • Clever title.
  • I loved the heroine. She is the “crazy friend” that will say anything.
  • Very hot sex.
  • Super MC (I totally snort laughed)
  • Alex’s dorkiness.
  • Alex is also hot as hell in bed! “I’m gonna eat you like I’m on death row and you’re my last goddamned meal.”

Dislikes:

  • “Beaver” and “Monster Cock” or “MC” seemed to be some majorly overused words. Sometimes almost thrown in randomly.
  • Slightly slow ramp-up to love Violet.
  • I feel like it needed more of an epilogue.

The Down and Dirty:

I really pucking loved the stupid vagina jokes and dick jokes and other immature idiocies in Pucked. I also enjoyed the romance, the angst, the sweetness, and the awesome sex. From what I’ve seen, you either love Violet or hate her. I totally loved her, but it took a little time before I came to that conclusion. The playful banter between the hero and heroine were exactly what I absolutely LOVE to read about, and I think Ms. Hunting did an amazing job. Pucked was the perfect blend of silly humor, sweet romance and hot sex, and I hope she writes a spin-off, because I’ll snatch it right up. (Hee-hee…snatch)
