Welcome to Wicked Girl’s GNO! My book boyfriend for the week….hmmm…tough one. I love the nerdy Matt from Flat Out Matt, George from By A Thread by RL Griffin was hot too, but I have to say, Brady, from the soon to be released (April 29th) Because of You by TE Sivec was the winner. The book isn’t out yet, but you can meet Brady in A Beautiful Lie by TE Sivec, where is is a supporting character. Yum.
On to the subject of the night…has reading books affected your relationships? Have you realized you want more and your guy isn’t cutting it? Is your reading taking away from family time? Or has reading woken up your sex drive?
It has mine, a lot. After 22 years of marriage, our sex life is better than ever. It’s amazing how much reading helps me get in the mood. I’m not a fan of porn, but a good book can do it for me. Especially books like Cherise Sinclair’s Masters of the Shadowlands (on sale) or her Mountain Masters or Olivia Cunning’s Sinners on Tour (also on sale). My best friend says The Brie Submissive Series and After Graduation Series by Red Phoenix is what helps their bedroom activities (plus Ambien, which makes her lose her inhibitions, but she forgets it in the morning). The books that have really done it for me are books that have both a great story AND great sex. See my list here.
As long as my husband is getting it more, he doesn’t care how it happens and has no problem letting me read during foreplay. I also have taken screen shots of stuff I like and texted it to him, making us much more creative.
But it works the other way too. If I’m reading an emotional non-sexy book. He’s not getting any that night.
I have friends whose husbands’ resent their reading, and some who realized their husbands suck in bed and want more. Remember ladies, these are books. Real life isn’t always going to measure up.
So, grab a drink and talk to me! How has reading affected your marriage? What books are your go-to reads when you need a little “get in the mood” read?
Next week’s GNO: Fictional Fucks. Who would you sleep with, real or book if you could and have no consequences?
TG says
I think reading has really spiced up my marriage, I feel the same way you do about not being into porn too much but reading the right book can totally get me in the mood. I have been a lot more daring in our sex life and started branching out and trying new things. Love Olivia Cunning’s Sinners on Tour series as well as her One Night with Sole Regret series. I am also definitely a reader during foreplay, but I “usually” put my kindle down for the good stuff. My husband has definitely been getting lucky a lot more often since I started reading than he did prior and I have to say that I have started enjoying sex more than I used to.
I do have to say that my reading does sometimes take away from family time (I try really hard for this not to happen) but since I am currently in school (albeit online), when I have free time I like to get a couple chapters in. I am working on this though, and since I will graduate in 8 weeks, I will have a lot more time to devote to my reading!!!
Book Boyfriend this week: Definitely Travis Maddox, finally read Beautiful Disaster since Walking Disaster was coming out and I read them both this week…LOVED TRAVIS!!!!!
Ana's Attic says
I can’t read when I’m being banged too hard! Ha! LOL
TG says
It does tend to make it a little hard to hold my kindle still!!!
Nancy VanSpunky says
Oh my freaking goodness! Lol.
CC says
The hubs used to bitch about my reading until I told him that’s why he was getting laid more often. Now he loves it when I read. He also loves it now that I’m writing and I have to do “research”.
Ana's Attic says
Oh, I want to do research!
Nancy VanSpunky says
Hehe! Research, I like that!!
Yeah, that’s what I’m doing, too!
CC says
It really is research. I’m all, “Honey, I’m writing this sex scene and I want to be sure it’s realistic.”
Kara says
When i do something new, I like to use the line “I read this once…..”
Tessa says
Kara, that’s brilliant!
Nancy VanSpunky says
It all started with Kristen Ashley… My so-called mid-life crisis is one of a cool Rock Chick. My spouse thinks I’m a hoot, so def spiced up things! I’m more self-confident. I do find I want more… Will just have to see how that pans out.
Ana's Attic says
Well you look awesome, your self confidence shines through in your photos. But chronic pain can put a damper on sex. I know that it is hard to get my mind off the pain and on to the good stuff sometimes.
Kara says
It does increase the sex life, unless I’m reading about the vagina hand and then I’m WAY to busy laughing my ass off to care!!! 😉
Ana's Attic says
Haha! I have started cracking up during sex thinking about Seduction and Snacks. Fucking Tara.
Kara says
I woke my hubby up laughing so hard!!! At that point I’m like why the hell not! The whore has a magical mind!!!
Ana's Attic says
Wait until you meet Brady…..yum.
Kara says
I cannot wait!!!! She is by far my author!!! She NEVER disappoints!!!
Kara says
FavoritE!!! Apparently I’m a drunk ass!!!
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
Would have to say my mind is definitely in the wrong place (probably verified after I got back to reading almost a year ago). I feel I am missing something in my marriage. Lots of issues in the “bed”and some can’t really be changed (prostrate cancer that was cured via radiation). Married over 20 years to a workaholic. I am in my late 40’s and wonder is this really how I want to spend the next chapter of my life? I know depressing, right? Girlfriends really help!!! Go to books,Kristen Ashley is one of my most favorites because the age of characters are a bit more relatable. Time to order and orange martini!
Ana's Attic says
I have a lot of friends who also realized they don’t want to live with a bad sex life for 40-50 more years. Sad but true.
Ana's Attic says
I love your name!
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
Cleaver name just in case
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
I know a lot of women too that feel the same. It is sad situation but I try to find some positive. Plus, thank GOD I have been and stay at home MOM for several years so I am not thrown into the arms of any of the alpha males Kristen Ashely writes about and non of them live next door either. ; )! And I live in CO
Heather says
I never seemed to be in the mood until I started reading 50 January of last year and my libido kicked in like crazy! The funny thing is that my husband’s now the one who’s barely interested!
Ana's Attic says
50 did a lot for a lot of marriages. It definitely boosted my libido!
TG says
I got my start with 50 last June, I fought it tooth and nail, but one of my friends was very persistent and I finally caved and I have never looked back and I have read some much better books since then!!! I also was never really a reader or anything until last year and my book list keeps on growing. My husband thanks Christian Grey!!! LOL!!
Ana's Attic says
Your husband needs to read it too LOL
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
Yes, that is the book that started my addiction to reading and how I found Ana and all her great recommendations!!! Yay! But no more bragging about your great sex life Ana. Just kidding, glad you are experiencing all the joys!! I can admit I am jealous.
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
I am right there with you, I am in the mood and my husband isn’t !!!
Ana's Attic says
Can I suggest the Hitachi Magic Wand? I have a Magic Wand store in my Red Room of Pain (see the sidebar) or go here: https://anasattic.com/Stairway/Red_Room_of_Pain.html
Tessa says
Reading has affected my relationship in a few ways. 1.) I’m desperately trying to get my husband to move to Colorado and become a mountain man. Strangely, he’s into it. Thanks, Kristen Ashley! 2.) We’ve become more adventurous in the bedroom. I share some of the things I read, he mentally stores them and breaks them out at a later date. It’s been lovely. 3.) I’m probably not as attentive as I should be. This is something I know I need to work on. I’ve stopped reading in the car unless I’m absolutely will die without finishing the chapter. 4.) Reading has actually motivated me to get back into shape. I’m about 15 lbs overweight, but I’ve started running and toning up more because, well, I want to be wall banged.
Ana's Attic says
I was waiting for you Tessa! Great answers! I would LOVE to be wall banged, but even though my husband is strong, I have about 70 pounds on him. He weighs less than me at my thinnest. Fucker.
My husband acts EXACTLY like Kristen’s alphaholes, so that’s not really an issue, but I’d like to move there for other legal reasons, and I’m the same about being attentive. My books get more attention than anyone nowadays.
Tessa says
Hahaha! Colorado would be awesome for many, many reasons! My husband is 6’5″ and about 200lbs, so he totally can pick me up but I’m just uncomfortable with myself when he tries, so I’m trying to get to a better place. I hate men something. He eats everything in the world and doesn’t gain an ounce. Asshole.
That is so awesome he’s like a KA alpha. Love my man, but he could use that addition to his personality! lol
YY says
Love #4. Wallbanging is a great motivation to lose weight.
Tessa says
Right?! I should just have a recording “wallbanging” on my ipod every time I exercise. Motivation!! 😀
RL says
Sorry I’m late to the show, but reading about all of the fun stuff people were doing just made me request different things which in turn made the hubs happy!
Ana's Attic says
Happy hubbies are horny hubbies <3
Kara says
Ya, I didnt think our bedroom life needed “spicing” until I read some of the things these book characters were doing!!!!
Ana's Attic says
Same here. I thought we were pretty damn spicy before, but damn, I got lots of new ideas!
Tessa says
Oh and my book boyfriend of the week is…Shy. Drew. Shy Drew. Can I have both?
Ana's Attic says
Drew from what book?
Tessa says
One Week Girlfriend
Ana's Attic says
I have to check that out! Shy is pretty friggin awesome though.
Tessa says
It’s great! The second comes out on Tuesday. I’m dying for it. Dual POV.
YY says
It must be the red wine but I finally decided to comment. Reading has definitely had an effect on my mood especially books by authors like Olivia Cunning, Sylvia Day and Lisa Renee Jones. I will have to Cherise Sinclair’s books. Also, I don’t know if this is a result of reading or just growing and maturing but I now am more likely to speak my mind about what I want. I have always been a little shy so this is a huge step for me. I love that you do the screen shots and texts…perhaps one day I will gather the courage to do that.
I agree about the non-emotional books…I save them for a particular time of the month. 🙂
Ana's Attic says
Ha! me too! And yes, reading has made me MUCH bolder in requesting stuff from my husband. He loves it, but I still have a hard time requesting, it kind of ruins the fact that I want HIM to KNOW.
Tessa says
I go the route of “so this guy in this book did this…that’s really hot…..” sometimes it seeps in, sometimes it doesn’t. lol
R says
I just ask for whatever it is I want and find hubs is all about it.
Sharing is Caring says
My reading has both hindered our sex life and spiced it up…when I started really getting into books back in 2008 as in reading one after another, not just every once in a while I went though a time of sex every night. It got to a point where my hubs said I’m gong to bed and followed it up with “to sleep”… Got the hint, but now he complains when I’m always reading and normally goes to bed and is asleep before I even get close to the bed. I don’t want to be the one to always initiate sex so needless to say its not as often as I would like. I hate to say that after reading some of the books I have, I want more from sex and I want my hubs to take control…I do take ideas from the books though and try to use some of the examples to make things more exciting, but I’m afraid to voice my opinion on some of the things I would like to try after so many years of vanilla!
Tessa says
I know exactly what you mean! When you get the point where you feel like you’re always the one initiating it, it gets tiresome. It’s nice for him to come on to you, to show you he wants you. I mean, we know our men want us, it’s evident when the action gets going, but it’d be nice if they’d be the ones to start it sometimes!
That being said, I think sometimes we as women know what we want, but we have a hard time communicating that to our men.
Ana's Attic says
Hence my screen shot texts.
YY says
The control thing is very interesting. I am very much a type A person…run things at work and at home…but I have realized that I really want to give up control in the bedroom and I think it throws off my hubby.
Ana's Attic says
That’s the whole thing, it’s nice to give up that control. Have you told him EXACTLY that?
YY says
No, I haven’t said it directly. I probably should. We are best friends and talk about everything but this.
Sharing is Caring says
That’s exactly the way I feel!
Sharing is Caring says
That’s exactly how I feel!
Ana's Attic says
I told my husband about the Pearls scene in Beth Kery’s Wicked Burn. https://anasattic.com/wicked-burn-review/ The next day, he ordered me a set of pearls. I need to read to him more.
Juewelz says
Reading during foreplay? Ana lol I don’t see how he would like that . As a single girl reading often has me wanting to my calls and text that I def shouldn’t be doing cuz once the mood passes ill be mad my lack of self control lol.
Ana's Attic says
Ha! He couldn’t care less….as long as he ends up getting some, and I get in the mood he’s happy. He knows reading helps…..and while he’s down there, he doesn’t care if I’m reading! Ha!
TG says
My husband is the exact same, however I am sure if I was single I would feel differently about it too!!
Kara says
Ha! The Hubs likes to see how long it takes before I’m “distracted” from my book!
Ana's Attic says
Tee hee, mine too.
TG says
Same here, I think it makes him feel good when I actually put the book down!!!
Kara says
Haha men & their accomplishments!!! I’ll take em!!!!!!!!
Tessa says
That’s hilarious! Mine would probably throw my Kindle across the room if I tried that. Lucky ladies!
Ana's Attic says
That’s kind of hot too. I just had him come out and ask when I’m coming in….
TG says
Mine just texted me from the bedroom wanting to know when I was coming to bed!!! 😉
Tessa says
I wonder if younger men just can’t appreciate the fact that the books are turning their women on so much. Like, they just expect us to be hot & bothered all the time? My husband’s 26. Maybe in twenty years he’ll appreciate my reading and getting me distracted from it. Right now I think it’d just piss him off. lol
Kara says
My hubby is 28 but he’s a fireman so he’s gone every 3rd night, so in our mind, whatever works! I think it hurt his feelings at first but then he made the “distracted” game and we roll with it!
Tessa says
Hmmm I may have to try that….That’s a really good idea. He may actually be receptive.
Ana's Attic says
I always know he’s in the mood when he says “whatchya reading?”
TG says
Mine says, “don’t you have a book to read, why don’t you go get some reading done before I come to bed!!!” I always know what that means!!!!
Ana's Attic says
Haha! Smart men.
Kara says
I just got the “reading something good?” line!
Ana's Attic says
Mine says the EXACT same thing! LOL
Mary Jones says
Reading has definitely enhanced my sex life. I’ve been married 22 years s well, and it’s never been better. My husband definitely appreciates my reading as he is the benefactor of these sexy reads and I definitely share things I’ve learned and he is open for new things. He’s awesome and he is my favorite book boyfriend. When I’m reading late and he’s already asleep, he has no problem with me waking him up in the middle
Thw night. We’ve never been closer in all ways
Ana's Attic says
Awesome! Sounds like my guy. I don’t think I’ve ever been turned down.
Mary Jones says
❤ Just wanted to say your your blog is amazing. I read every post and review
I’ve got my girlfriend hooked too.
Ana's Attic says
Aaaawwww, thanks! That means a lot! I feel like I don’t get to hang with the “cool kids” because I’m a small blog, so I love to hear that!
Kara says
Your WAY cooler than the “cool kids”! I just discovered you and I feel like I’m slowing becoming a stalker!!!
Ana's Attic says
Stalk me!!!!! I WANT stalkers! LOL
Tessa says
I’m a total stalker, too. Welcome to the club!!!
Ana's Attic says
Yay!
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
Me too! Ana ( if that is your real name) you are the best!! Soon your day will come when you too have many more followers and are known for being a cool kid with everyone just not our popular crowd !
Kara says
When I say “stalker” I mean like moving into your neighborhood, taking you to the bar, making my self your friend stalker……….or just commenting on stuff a lot if the rest is to weird for you! 🙂
Ana's Attic says
That’s fine, come! Move to South Florida, we can have a real GNO!
Tessa says
I’m down!
Kara says
That would be amazing & dangerous, I think!!!!
Ana's Attic says
Come for Book Bash after party in June or Wicked Girls Book Weekend in March 2014! That’s what it’s for, to stalk the people you meet online via books and get drunk with them 🙂
Kara says
Done! Where are they held? I’m always down to leave Oklahoma for a weekend!!!
Ana's Attic says
Both are in Orlando FL. Look under the menu here for Wicked Girls Book Weekend to read about the last one, and like the facebook page for updates.
YY says
Your blog is awesome!
Ana's Attic says
Thanks so much! I wish I knew who you were LOL!
YY says
Good to know about the book bash after party. Sounds like fun!
Ana's Attic says
My husband just came out here, put his dick in my hand, rubbed my boobs and said, “are you gonna be long?” Haha….TMI? I’m REALLY drunk now. Rum makes me silly.
Ana's Attic says
When I told him I was bragging about him in bed, he said “take your time” haha.
Kara says
Haha, that’s amazing!!
Tessa says
lmfao men and their egos. Love it!!
YY says
Too funny!
Tessa says
HAHAHA tell him its WICKED GIRLS NIGHT OUT! He’ll get drunk appreciation later!
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
Bragger!
Ana's Attic says
It’s not always great, his libido is still WAY higher than mine. He is an asshole if he goes more than 36 hours without it, so I have to choose between doing it and enjoying it (He will MAKE ME enjoy it, even if I try not to) or him being a dick.
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
It is time for you to write a book!
Ana's Attic says
Me? Nah….I am too sensitive. I could never take the critics. Plus, every story I have thought of is basically mine with a twist. I don’t have that creative thing where a story comes to me. And I use WAY too many exclamation points!!!!!
Afraid someone I know will see this. says
Well, I think you are pretty creative Ana!!!!!!!!!Since it is only 10:00 pm in the mile high city I am off I to read Seduced In the Dark. Goodnight all and thanks for sharing!
Ana's Attic says
Thanks! Enjoy. I need to read that one.
Ana's Attic says
Uuummmm, maybe I should be logging in as a fake name? Shit, I blabber on when I’m drunk……oh yeah, this is a fake name. I mean ANOTHER fake name. Hmmmmm, who would I want to be? If I were Claire (Chocolate Lovers), I’d always be laughing, and I’d love to be Myrna (The sinners) but the name blows.
Tessa says
LMFAO I thought the same thing. That book was soooooo hot, but I can’t imagine Brian moaning “Myrna”.
Ana's Attic says
That is NOT a sexy name.
Tessa says
No, not at all. Now, Tessa is not a sexy name by any means, but at least it doesn’t sound like my grandma.
Darci says
I couldn’t get past the name! But, it was a pretty hot book overall: )
Alaine says
Ambiens in. Brie has been read and thoroughly enjoyed. Play time with hubby a success. Now the big question. Will I remember it in the morning?!?!
Tessa says
Maybe if you log back onto Ana’s blog 😉
Ana's Attic says
That was quick! Damn, I wish mine was that quick sometimes.
Darci says
Maybe I’m too late to this, but I may be (quite) buzzed, but reading has definitely “enhanced” my love life! And thank God I’m buzzed, because I’m so not that girl to talk about this: ) A year ago, I started reading 50 Shades…which led to many others, which led me to an obsession of reading. I’m currently reading the second book of Black Dagger Brotherhood, and I pretty much want a hot vampire to take me away! I’ll settle for my husband though, I guess. But yes, overall, reading all of these different books on a kindle I thought I’d never used has been the result of a positive change in my relationship with my husband, and gives me an escape from my crazy, wild children, who I am at home with ALL day! A girl needs to have dreams: )
Tessa says
Oh my gosh, RHAGE!!!!!!!!!! EEEEK he is so freakin’ hot, but just wait until you get to book 3. There is no better vamp god than Zsadist.
Okay, my BDB fangirling aside, its amazing how 50 Shades has changed so many lives. Women I work with turn their noses up to it, calling it violent, horrible rubbish, blah, blah blah, and I guarantee they’ve either not read it, or they don’t have men to… experiment with. Sure, its not the most well written, but it makes a girl hot! So glad we have books to help us escape our crazy lives!
Darci says
I have heard soooo many times that book 3 is it! I can’t wait to get there! I never in my life thought I’d love these kind of books, but I can’t help myself. I have fallen in love with these guys: )
And you’re so right about 50 Shades. I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I started reading them, but I loved that series from the beginning. Now, I can still say it’s a great series of books, but from those books, I have found so many more that I absolutely love! I think having an open mind to it is the key. Heck, even when asked if front of the “older” ladies in my family if I had read these books, before I could respond, my Grandma stood up for these books, saying they’re great for people to read, because most people want a good romance with a happy ending: ) And with everything going on in people’s lives, we all need a little escape from reality!
Tessa says
That’s so awesome!!! The thing is that people who haven’t read the series think its just smut, when in reality there really is a beautiful love story. It’s just unconventional, so society labels it as weird, porn, violent, ect. And you’re right, it was my first erotica series, and my eyes have been opened to a whole new world that I’m so glad I was introduced to. And I going to go find a dom? No. Do I love reading about one? HELL YES!
BDB is great. I’m about to start book 8. Books 2&3 were my faves, but they are all so great!
Ana's Attic says
Love the brothers! I have got to catch up and read the newest one!
IveGotLotsToSay says
Reading doesnt really take away from family. I think the ONLY time I was seriously distracted to the point of “WHAT!, WHAT DO YOU WANT!” , “LATER!” was 50 shades. Of course, hubs had supreme benefit from 50 Shades. I rode him like a tree. Almost every night. Aside from 50 Shades, I usually read at night before bed and a bit more on weekends. It just depends on how intense the book is. Now, Tara Sivec’s books? I happen to have had a serious flu and I read all of her books in a span of 4–5 days. I felt like shit but I laughed my ass off for days! I love her. If she were a man. I’d ride her too. Porn is awesome ladies! We watch it on occassion (after son is asleep, laundry is done, lunches packed). Its like a video book for men. we “read” the scenes. .
Holly says
Shit, I love this blog. I can relate to everything you’all said! I want to add that while I enjoy all flavors of romance, I never knew how exhilarating M/M erotica can be until I stumbled upon it accidentally. Holy hotness that gets me in the mood (with hubby) more than anything. Oh and Anna, your guy sounds hotttt! 🙂
