Unexpected by Aleatha Romig
Standalone 2nd in a novella series. Romantic Suspense.
I love married couple books. As someone who has been married for 28 years next month, I enjoy reading about marriages that may be going through a rough patch. When I saw there was a quick novella with a married couple written by none other than Aleatha Romig, I jumped right in to Unexpected.
Paul and Jenn are on the verge of divorce, but both decide to give it one last try before they sign the papers. They have both been keeping a large part of themselves from the other, and itās time for everything to come out or for the marriage to end.
They give it 10 days at a deserted off-season resort with an island to themselves to reconnect and hopefully break down the walls holding them each back.
“She’s ever been sexier than she is right now, her blue eyes wide, filled with uncertainty at my change in behavior, yet trusting because deep down she knows I’d never do anything to hurt her.”
There is plenty of sexy times with some BDSM thrown in.
āI donāt want to make love. I want to fuck you like Iāve never fucked you before. I want to spend the next ten days making you hear meā¦even when I donāt speak.ā
But there is also some excitement, action and suspense! A lot happened in this little novella and I read it in one sitting.
I really enjoyed this story, but I did have the nagging feeling I had read it before. I finally realized that it was because it wasĀ kind of a mash-up of two of my favorite married-couples-on-the-brink-of-divorce books in one bite-sized nugget, and believe me, I’m not complaining.
If you are looking for a quick, very sexy, married couple with some BDSM and suspense, look no further! Unexpected was a page-turner, and knowing in the back of my mind that Aleatha has a bit of a depraved mind had me turning the pages even faster, and she didnāt disappoint. I do, however, wish it were a full-length novel because there was a lot packed into 115 pages and it was a little rushed, but the same can be said for most novellas.
Note: I did not read the first book in the series and never felt like I had missed something.
Rating: 4 Stars. 4.5 Heat
