Shame on Me (Fool Me Once #2) by Tara Sivec
2nd in a series, each can stand alone. Funny, sexy, adult contemporary novellas.
Since Tara gave me some exclusive video I edited together for the Shame on You release date, we decided to keep the tradition going!

It’s no secret how much I love Tara Sivec. I have a bit of an inappropriate girl crush on her. Every time she releases a new book, my crush grows. Why? because she writes people you want to be friends with. Her books are about real, funny, people that I just wish I could be BFFs with. Paige McCarty is an ex supermodel. But she is a supermodel that you don’t want to punch in the face. She dropped out of the business because she was tired of being only thought of as a pretty face and body. She was more than just her looks.
Fool Me Once Investigations was formed by 3 friends (I call them Tara’s Angels) Kennedy (the heroine of Shame on You, book one –see my review and video), Paige (this book) and Lorelei. They are all women scorned, and they formed the agency to make sure other women don’t get fucked over. When they can’t get immediate photos of husbands cheating, they use plan B – Paige, the supermodel.
Tonight I’m wearing one of my favorite bait outfits: a nice little ensemble I like to call “my eyes are up here moron.”
Paige’s job is to make nice with the cheating husband and get him to kiss her. The other girls get the photo, and the scorned wives have evidence to take to their attorneys.
“I’m kissing a thousand frogs to show other women that Prince Charming will screw you over the first chance he gets.”
Paige is the fashion lover of the group, and her love for shoes knows no bounds. She always looks her best, and of course, being a supermodel, she gets recognized all the time. What man wouldn’t want to make out with Maxim’s cover model?
Paige’s ex was a jerk who just wanted her for arm candy. When he took every penny she had and gambled it away in a weekend, she ended it. But that didn’t stop the asshole from asking her for more money. He was nerdy looking, totally Paige’s type. So when she is asked to be bait for a man who had a similar look (but better), Paige had trouble fighting her attraction to Matt. Especially when he didn’t recognize her from her famous cover shoots (which she loved), and was nothing more than polite to her before telling her to be careful and leaving.
“Shame on me for thinking this job was going to be a piece of cake.”
Paige couldn’t help but think of Matt’s blue eyes, and what kind of body is under his sweater vest as she investigated the separated man further.
Something felt ‘off’ to her. He just didn’t seem like a cheater. But the agency was hired by his wife, and she couldn’t blow her cover or Kennedy would kill her. As she met with him again, he disclosed that he was trying to catch his wife cheating because she was trying to take his company.
“Goddammit all to hell! I believe him. I believe him and now I want to help him. This is not good.”
Thus begins Paige doing her first investigation on her own. Matt is a perfect gentleman with gorgeous blue eyes behind those glasses. But you couldn’t help but sense the immediate connection the two had.
“This is weird. Is it weird for you? Tell me it’s not just me. I mean I just met you.” ~Matt
“Shame on me for thinking I was going to get out of this with my heart intact” ~Paige
When Matt stuck up for her and punched her ex in the face, that was it.
“I’m pretty sure my underwear just spontaneously combusted”
And his love (and knowledge) of her shoes just cemented the deal.
Paige’s mom and her friends were definitely the true, funny comic relief of the book.
“Are you doing nudie pictures again? No, don’t tell me. I want to make sure I show enough shock on my face when Eunice and Fran tell me they saw your bump-bump at the supermarket checkout next to Good Housekeeping.”
The Fool Me Once Series by Tara Sivec consists of three short, 150-ish page quick reads, but the two I have read feel like a full story. I never feel like anything is missing, and I don’t think they suffer from what many novellas do, a feeling of incompleteness, or being rushed.
Likes:
- Funny but not so funny that it’s just a comedy. It’s definitely a romance.
- Matt was such a sexy nerd.
- You felt the connection between the couple immediately.
- Lots of action. The story didn’t stop for a second.
- Great set up for Lorelei’s book.
- You didn’t have to really remember details of the first book to enjoy the second.
- Paige’s mother and her friends. The Golden Girls were awesome.
- Matt’s dad. Loved him!
Dislikes:
- I could have done with a little more hot sex, Tara writes it so well.
Rating: 4.5-4.75 stars for a novella 3.5 Heat.
I had so much fun reading Shame on Me. I read the whole book with a silly smile on my face. After reading in the doctors office while waiting an hour, I had two people ask me what book it was that was making me smile and giggle so much.
PS. I’d love to see a little bonus book about Paige’s mom and Matt’s dad!
