I loved Wait With Me by Amy Daws and was so excited when Next In Line released on audio. Next in Line is about Sam, the soon-to-be owner of Tires Tires Tires.
Sam is a hard-working, down-to-earth good guy who cares about his family and friends. So when this gorgeous but clueless young woman walks into Marv’s Bait Shack to get supplies to go ice fishing, Sam needs to step in and help her out.
“You’re clearly a great master baiter,” Maggie replies with wide eyes. “But I wonder how much practice it’ll take for me to become one?”
Maggie is supposed to be away for the holidays with her long-time boyfriend, but instead, she is hiding out after he broke up with her by calling her “basic”. She wants to win him back by proving he is wrong, and the first non-basic thing she wants to do is ice fish. Except she hasn’t a clue what it takes. Luckily Sam steps in to help.
“Something tells me Sam’s workouts are more like chopping his own firewood than doing squats at a gym. And I am not mad about that.”
They developed a friendship. This was not love at first sight for either of them. She was young (22) and ridiculously naive, and he was 31 and all about his business and family. He wasn’t looking for anything. And she was hooked on getting back her ex.
As much as I loved Sam, I felt like in Maggie’s immature mind he would never live up to the ex she was obsessed on getting back; like he was second choice. But as the slow burn heated up, I warmed up as well. In fact, I fell for Sam hook, line and sinker. (<—See what I did there? I thought I was creative until I realized Raegan used it too! lol)
“You’re like the great catch of the day that you know could never be topped even if you fished for the rest of your life.”
Likes:
- Sam was awesome.
- The fishing puns were hysterical.
- I laughed out loud and had a lot of fun reading it.
- I enjoyed visiting with the couple from the first book. (But it isn’t necessary to read first, even though it’s so good you should).
- I enjoy an age gap.
Dislikes:
- She was so immature.
- She was so obsessed with her ex, it made it seem like Sam would always be second choice.
- She told lies when there was no need to.
The Narration:
Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon absolutely added to the enjoyment of this book! I couldn’t have picked a better choice of narrators.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 4 Stars, 4 Heat, 5 Narration

Raegan’s Review
This book got me, hook, line & sinker! From the witty banter to the chemistry between Sam & Maggie and everything in between. There wasn’t anything I didn’t love. I absolutely recommend the audiobook for this story as Teddy Hamilton & Erin Mallon did a phenomenal job at bringing the characters to life.
4.5stars – 5star audio
These are some of my favourite quotes:
“I hope you realize I’m not going to fall for a bearded ginger knight in shining armor type.” I bark out a laugh at that description. “Oh, I know! If you don’t fall for Marv’s charm, then you certainly won’t fall for mine.” I reach up and stroke my chin. “And this is called ‘tangerine toughness’ by the way.”
“And just in case you need to hear it, you are the kind of beautiful that is unforgettable”
