Book 5 in a romcom hockey series but it can stand alone.
**Disclaimer: I received this book as an advanced listener copy. I did not have a printed arc, so these quotes are transcribed by ear. Please excuse any punctuation errors. Thank you Meghan Quinn and her staff for offering me this opportunity to give an honest review.
“I love bologna sandwiches,” she whispers. “So do I,” I whisper back. “That’s how I know we’re meant to be together.”
Meghan Quinn never fails in delivering a good time. I’ve been obsessed with her writing since 2015 and she never disappoints. So This Is War is the 5th book in the Vancouver Agitators series. The first three books in this series are some of the only MQ books I have missed since 2015, but I loved the one I did read. So This Is War can stand alone, probably without any issues, but it’s SO MUCH BETTER if you read previous books, that’s especially true for this book, because So This Is War completes the series so well.
You see, this book is about Levi Posey. He is the bologna-loving playboy of the team. He is responsible for getting all the other couples together. When Posey met a full-figured redhead in a bar at an away game hotel, he felt an immediate connection. He knew she was ‘the one’, but she ran out and ghosted him. He’s been looking for her for a year, never knowing she was right under his nose.
Wylie Wood is the coach’s daughter. She felt that same connection in the bar…until her dad walked in. She knew her dad would kill Posey so she ran out for his own good. But a year later, Wylie decided to drop out of business school to pursue graphic design, so her dad decided to give her a lesson in living in the real world.
Posey: I nervously laugh again and it comes out more like a giggle which in return, makes me want to take my own skate to my dick.
“Bologna makes you feel manly?”
Coach got her a job as Posey’s personal assistant, but he made Posey give her crazy, demeaning jobs like getting bagels at 1 am, sorting Skittles by color, and transcribing a book into another font. TBH, I thought maybe her dad was trying to hook them up because duh…he’s the only single player left! Why not get her a job with a married player or an ugly player?
So you have to suspend belief a little in So This Is War, and that’s OK. The setup is a bit ridiculous, but the execution was still amazing.
“You own me, Wylie.” he kisses the tip of my nose. “You fucking own me.”
Posey seeking advice from all of the wives and all of their text message threads were the best part of the book. While I’ve loved all the team chats in the past, this was even better.
Penny: “What do you mean there is something secret about your penis.”
“Yeah that’s confusing because now my mind is racing”, Ollie says. Like, what kind of things are happening down there? Does a little man pop out of your penis when the lady comes, offering a congratulations to everyone involved?”
Posey was such a goof that I didn’t expect the level of heat! Meghan brought it, and I was here for it.
“That’s it, Wylie. Get loud, baby, let me hear you.”
Likes:
- I loved Wylie.
- How can you not love Posey?
- I happen to really like bologna too, but ever since Covid you can’t get Hebrew National anymore, and I don’t like any other brand.
- Seeing all the couples from previous books.
- The text thread between Posey and the wives.
- I was giggling out loud many times.
- Meghan brought the HEAT!
- Posey’s little surprise.
- I loved Wylie’s dad. He needs a book!
Dislikes:
- Why would her dad get her a job working 24/7 for the hottest single player on the team and expect them not to do it?
The Narration:
The narration was FABULOUS. All of my favorite narrators delivered this in a full cast production and I was so glad I listened instead of read it. One of my favorite audiobook narrations ever.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 4.5 Stars, 3.75 Heat, 5+ Narration
