Most Valuable Playboy by Lauren Blakely
Narrated by Zachary Webber
Standalone Contemporary Sports Romance, Male POV
Lauren Blakely amazes me. She churns out books so quickly that you would think that they might lose some of the magic, but they never do, EVERY SINGLE ONE has been AMAZING. She is a “drop everything and read” author for me, because her stories never fail to make me swoon, smile, fall in love, laugh and plain-old feel good. Most Valuable Playboy is no exception. I am not a sports romance lover for the most part, but I am when Lauren Blakely writes it! She has a way of combining common tropes, in this case sports romance, childhood friends, friends to lovers and best friend’s sister, and she makes them into the perfect steamy romance.
Cooper is an NFL Quarterback and reformed playboy. He has the reputation of being well-worth the bidding at the annual charity bachelor auction, if you know what I mean. The team owner’s cougar sister really wants to win every inch of Cooper, and she is a bit creepy about it, so he enlists his good friend and best friend’s sister, Violet to bid whatever she needs to bid to win.
When Violet wins, they suddenly find themselves lip-locked and telling the world they are a couple.
“This kiss rocks the motherfucking world of kisses.”
The PR people love it, so they continue the ruse.
“I’m wildly attracted to my best friend’s sister, but I have to pretend I don’t want to kiss her, touch her, fuck her, and take her home with me. That’s where the true faking starts for me.”
I have to say, this was one of the sweeter, cuter books by Lauren. I’m not complaning by any means, but it was pretty angst-free.
Cooper is a hot, dirty talker, but he’s fun too.
“I want to taste them and suck on them before I kiss my way down your body and settle between your legs, where I plan on introducing you to my tongue. And my tongue is very much looking forward to making your pussy’s acquaintance.”
And he is never an asshole. He is always healthily respectful, as are all of Lauren’s heroes.
Wanting her is simply a fact in my universe. It’s gravity. It’s the moon spinning around Earth.
That’s one of the things I really loved about The Most Valuable Playboy. They both had careers that the other respected, and they had such a healthy, functional, fun relationship.
I know she’ll be here when my career is over, because she was there before it started. She’ll be here, because I can see forever in her eyes.
And of course, Lauren brings us some of the best sexy times 🙂
I would very much like to give you another orgasm. I find it helps my focus on football immensely.
“I’ll take one for the team, then.”

Dislikes:
- It may have been a bit too cute. With no angst at all I wouldn’t call this a memorable read.
The Narration:
Zachary Webber is usually one of my favorite male narrators. He did a good job with this, but there were definitely times where I felt like he was just robotically reading rather than voice acting. Sure, at times his acting skills were there, but I just didn’t feel like he gave his best performance here. Still, not his best is still better than most others.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 4.5 Stars, 4.5 Heat, 4 Narration
