I read Perversion by TM Frazier last week and was completely blown away. I have loved every single book I have read of hers, but Perversion is my favorite so far. I posted my in-depth, spoiler-free review last week, but I will repost it here after this interview. If you want my brief review, just skip to the “Down & Dirty” at the bottom.
I was lucky enough to have Tracey answer a bunch of questions for us today, check them out!
What was your inspiration for the Perversion Trilogy?
TM: To be honest, Iām not sure where exactly it came from other than the opening scene of a little girl ripping off this delinquent kid came to mind and then kept running through my head. I sat on that scene for a long time, but I always knew Iād come back to it. The rest of it evolved from there.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?
TM: Yes. I was in a club in 6th grade called Authors Club. It was always a dream of mine.
Are you a full-time writer? If so, what did you do in your āprevious life?ā
TM: Yes, Iāve been a full-time writer since 2015. Before that, I was the sales manager for a home building company for over ten years. Itās so different to be able to do something every single day that I love and am passionate about. Itās literally my dream come true.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
TM: I donāt believe in regrets because youāll be haunted by them. Iāve learned from every single one of my MANY mistakes and wouldnāt be the person I am today without them. And I couldnāt tell her anything anyway. The younger me wasnāt a very good listener.
Most people write characters with pieces of people they know. Your characters are soā¦.crazy, do they have any traits of people you know?
TM: There are some bits and pieces of real people scattered in some of the characters, but Iāll never tell who. <3
Do you listen to music when you write?
TM: I used to but lately, Iāve found that I really really enjoy silence. Just being alone with my own thoughts.
What music are you currently into?
TM: Iām a huge country music fan. But lately, Iāve been listening to a lot of pop music and old-school hip-hop. The song Fall In Line by Christina Aguilera is a new favorite of mine. I also love Kane Brown. I just really love songs that have a message or tell a story.
What are some of your favorite recent Binge watches?
TM: THE HANDMAIDS TALE IS LIFE!!!!!!!
Where & when do you do most of your writing?
TM: I have an office upstairs in my house. I do all of my writing there.
What are your biggest distractions?
TM: EVERYTHING. Thatās why I need to be alone and have silence to write. lol
What recent book have you read and loved?
TM: Dirty Headlines by LJ Shen, a reread of 44 Chapters by BB Easton, and Richer Than Sin by Meghan March. AMAZING BOOKS.
Do you have a tradition on release day? What are you doing for this one?
TM: I donāt have any traditions but I think Iām going to bring my laptop to the pool and try and relax as much as Iām capable of relaxing.
Do you focus on one book at a time or work on multiple?
TM: I generally just focus on one but if something comes to me Iāll jot it down in my notebook and circle back around to it. Right now I have so many ideas for more books but I never know where my brain will want to focus next.
Do you have any hobbies outside of reading?
TM: I love decorating, makeup, and karaoke. ; )
What do you have planned for after this series?
TM: NINE will be the next book Iām working on. Itās part of the King Series and will be Preppyās brotherās book. I plan on releasing in the first half of 2019.
Do you use visuals when you write? (Like Pinterest or vision boards)
TM: Yes. Especially if Iām stuck on how to describe something I see in my head.
What is your most prized possession (outside of family and pets?)
TM: My 1921 vintage Remington Rand typewriter. It was a gift from my in-laws.
Perversion (Perversion Trilogy #1) by T.M. Frazier
First in a dark, gritty romance trilogy.
Total adrenaline rush! No matter how many books I have read this year, I didnāt read any with the urgency that I read Perversion by TM Frazier. Like an edge-of-your-seat action movie, TM Frazier kept me completely riveted. In fact, I think this is the first time since Fifty Shades I ever read a book, then went back and read it again immediately. The first time was pure adrenaline. I had to know what happened. The second time, I soaked in more details. Both times, it was amazing. And as soon as itās on audio, Iāll read it again. I also couldnāt start another book until I reviewed this one because I want to keep that breathless feeling as I review, when usually I wait a few days to formulate my thoughts.
āThat kind of girl is gonna either take over the world somedayāā She lowered her sunglasses from the top of her head over her eyes. āāor be the one who fucking destroys it.ā
Emma Jean met (conned) Tristan when she was 12 and he was 16 and headed to a new foster home. It was one brief meeting, but the connection between the kids was electric. They wrote letters for a bit until Emma Jean (aka Tricks) disappeared and Tristan’s letters were returned. 5 years later, he still looks for her, but her records are sealed.
āBecause I need to know what happened to the girl who with one fucking touch and an accidental kiss fucking fixed me!ā
Tristan, aka Grim the Executioner, was recruited by one of the three gangs that run the Florida town of Lacking. There is a serious gang war going on, and at twenty-one, Grim is being groomed to be the leader of Bedlam. Emma Jean was sent to rival gang Los Muertos, so even after 5 years in the same town, Grim and Tricks never knew the other was there. But when they find each other, that connection, that spark, zings right back.
But this time, they are mortal enemies.
“Silence passes between us and so does that magnetic current raising every hair on my arms. Iām trapped between a life I canāt live and a death I donāt want.”
As much as they want to be together, there would be an out and out war if they were.
āYou can lie with your words, but your body tells the truth. You canāt fucking run from this, Tricks!ā
āYes, I can. I have to,ā I whisper. āOr, so many people will die because of me.ā
There is beatings, kidnappings, shootings and worse, and you know TM Frazier doesnāt shy away from her main characters being involved in all of it which makes her stories so unpredictable. Perversion is the first in a trilogy, and yes, it ends in a crazy cliffhanger. While in many cases I would say wait until all 3 parts are out, in this case, I say DONāT WAIT. Itās TOO GOOD. Itās a super-fast read, but I donāt think it was actually short (itās hard to tell with a Kindle ARC), itās just so unputdownable that you will read it in one sitting, (I read it twice in 2 days, and Iām not a fast reader) so if you want to do a re-read before the next one comes out, you probably wonāt mind.
Likes:
- TM Frazierās best book to date.
- Completely and totally unputdownable.
- It was a total adrenaline rush!
- I fell in love with both characters as kids and again as (almost) adults.
- I loved the Bedlam family.
- How TM Frazier is able to build these completely believable fake worlds. Itās like an urban fantasy book without paranormal elements.
- TM Frazier is not afraid to do anything in her books, so you never know what to expect.
- A little surprise drop-in.
- So gritty and violent! Eep!
- This book seemed tighter than her previous books. There was no extraneous bullshit, you just got right to the meat of the story in every scene.
- I wasnāt ready to leave Lacking so I went back and read it again right away.
Dislikes:
- Waiting for the rest! I WANT IT NOW, but it will be even better from the wait.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 5++++ Stars, 4 Heat
