Shame on Him (Fool Me Once 3) by Tara Sivec
Romantic Suspense with Humor. 3rd in a series of stand alones.
If you have been following “Tara’s Angels” from the beginning, you are ready for Lorelei’s story! Although these books stand alone, they are so much better in order. These are like quick palate cleaners between big books. I read Shame on Him in one sitting, and was never bored or tempted to put it down. Like the first two, it had all of the things I love in my books: banter, a little fun, romance, sex, and a little action.
Lorelei is the straight laced lawyer part of the the Angels. Brought up very strict and proper, she is always in business suits, never curses, and does exactly what her parents have drilled into her her whole life. After divorcing her gay ex husband, Lorelei is the third partner in Fool Me Once Investigations, and the last to find love.
“I’ve had to deal with my two best friends falling in love right in front of my eyes after we swore off men for the rest of our lives.”
Lorelei has yet to tell her parents about Fool Me Once, but it’s the first time she’s been excited about something in her life, because her parents didn’t force it on her. It was all hers.
When she accidentally stumbles into a murder scene, she decides that this is the best time to prove her worth to Fool Me Once and solve the case. But her rival, Dallas Osborne, gets the case officially.
“I might be more inclined to be nice to him if he wasn’t such a Neanderthal and an arrogant jerk. It also doesn’t help matters that he’s entirely too good looking and knows it–over six feet of pure muscle and brawn with tattoos up and down his strong arms, short, messy, dark brown hair, and light gray eyes.”
But to solve this crime before him, Lorelei needs to get dirty.
“Seriously, you need to stop being so…boring.”
“…and for God’s sake, stop using fucking hand sanitizer.”
When Lorelei gets involved a little deeper than expected, guess who comes to her rescue? That arrogant gorgeous jerk, Dallas.
“Dallas Osborne is a force of nature. He’s hard around the edges, crass, and full of attitude. His kiss matches his personality: it’s rough and all consuming.”
Shame on Him was a cute little story, and a nice wrap up to the fun, light series.
Likes:
- Seeing the previous characters.
- A fun, quick read.
- Lorelei’s mother’s ‘change’. LOL!
- Some good danger and action.
- Great ending.
Dislikes:
- There wasn’t anything to truly dislike, but some of the Tara magic just seemed to be missing in this one. There just wasn’t anything very unique or special.
- The first one had the great chapter endings, the second one had a few, this one, had I think two. I loved all of the GD chapter endings in the first book.
- Everything was just a little too tidy and easy.
Rating: 4 stars, 3 Heat
The Fool Me Once Series is like Sex in the City meets Janet Evanovich. I’m a big fan of Janet’s Stephanie Plum series, and I think that these books are a perfect little read for fans who loved that. Shame on Him was a nice end to the series, but I felt like the whole story was a bit rushed and maybe a bit forced. I would have liked to have seen something unique or quirky like there was in the first book, Shame On You. Still, I enjoyed the read the whole way through, and almost peed myself while reading because I didn’t want to stop to pee at one point. TMI?
The whole Fool Me Once series by Tara Sivec has the perfect blend of humor, action, romance and heat all wrapped up in a series of 3 quick reads.
