Frenched by Melanie Harlow
Sexy Adult Contemporary with humor. Standalone.
I friggen’ LOVED Frenched by Melanie Harlow! It was the perfect happy, fun, very hot, vacation feel-good read. I was headed away on a trip, and I was looking for a fun, happy read. Frenched was everything I love in a book, the perfect romantic escapeāright up my alley.
Mia is an awesome character. I loved her! She is a slightly uptight, organized, list making 28 year old who has her own business and great friends. She’s fun, quirky, and totally relatable. She has planned out her life to the minute, and the book begins with her life not going as planned, in fact, her fiancĆ© broke it off by text message a week before her huge wedding (that was of course planned to a T and at the age she always planned on marrying).
Mia loves her lists, and the book begins with:
“Top Five Reasons (Out of 100) I Am NEVER Coming Out Of This Blanket Fort”…
…”But all over the floor were crumpled and wadded up lists with titles like Pooping your Pants in Public and other things that are ALMOST as humiliating as this But Not Quite and Ā Not 10, Not 50, but 100 Reasons why Tucker is a Fucker…
Mia is miserable, but it seems her misery has more to do with the fact that her plans went bad than that her relationship is over. Since her Honeymoon is already booked, her friends convince her to mope in Paris where she always wanted to go, rather than sit and cry at home. Though she angrily fought them tooth and nail, she finally agreed to suck it up, and convinced herself that she is a smart independent woman who can see all the things on her Paris list alone.
Tucker, Mia’s ex, Ā looked great on paper, but in reality, and in the bedroom (he has an aversion to bodily fluids!!??), it was a whole other story. It looks like Tucker did her a favor.
“He often said I was the perfect woman for himābeautiful, smart and low maintenance. Those were his criteria. And I thought he was the ideal manāa gorgeous suit and tie guy with a trust fund.”
Paris didn’t make things any better. Strolling through the city of love alone when she was supposed to be on her honeymoon had Mia spitting daggers and ready to go home. Again though, she didn’t seem to really miss Tucker, just the idea of being in Paris with a guy you love. She wanders into a Canadian bar to get away from the romance, and there she meets Lucas. Lucas is completely opposite her type, with messy hair and scruff, but he manages to convince Mia to give the city one more day with him as her guide.
Let the flirting commence! And seriously, the flirting was more like foreplay.
“Listen. I don’t know what kind of assholes you’ve been with before, but I promise you, your orgasm will not only make an appearance tonight, it will be the star of the show.”
Lucas was sweet, loving, sexy as fuck, and Ā the fact that he is actually a psych professor at NYU helped him get a great read on Mia. And Mia, I just loved being in her head! She makes lists, argues with herself, berates herself, and had me smiling the whole time.
“I’m close already! If he just keeps the rhythm steady, keeps his dick right there, yes, yes, yes, yes, right there, maybe moves a little quicker…”
The two of them together were just magic. Playful, totally hot and loving, I enjoyed every second of their time together. I met my husband while on vacation (he was a bouncer) and was in love within a day or two, so I totally believe in insta-love. And vacation just makes it that much more intense.
āIt felt so different, soĀ goodĀ to have someone willing to take his time. Someone to care about fulfilling my needs, someone who wanted to please me.
Someone who whispered my name in awe as he held himself deep within me.
Actually I think I did die. Because this feels like heaven.ā
In honor of the lists in this book, I will make my own.
Top 10 Things I Loved about Frenched by Melanie Harlow:
- Ā Lucas: Sexy, smart and charming
- Ā Mia is so down to earth and normal with quirks and all.
- Very, very hot sex!
- Lucas: Alpha, knows what he’s doing in bed, and is a little kinky š
- I smiled and laughed through the whole book except when I was lusting over the hot scenes.
- The fabulous tour of Paris made me feel like I was with them.
- I loved being inside Mia’s head.
- Lucas: strong, flirty and oh-so perfect for Mia.
- Mia’s lists were my favorite part.
- The pacing of the book kept me turning pages non-stop.
The only things I disliked:
- The ending felt a bit too abrupt and open. It isn’t a cliffhanger and stands alone, but I would have loved another 30 pages at the end to wrap it up.
- I’m not a huge fan of the cover.
Rating: 5 stars (would have been 5+ if there was an epilogue) 5 heat
Frenched by Melanie Harlow is definitely one of my favorite books this year so far. It made me happy to read, it made Mr. Ana happy that I was reading it, it made me laugh, cry, swoon, get all teary, get horny as hell, and had me smiling throughout. There was a little angst, but not much. Frenched was just an all around feel-good book. I totally recommend you take a Paris vacation with Mia and Lucas in Frenched.
