Boy do I love a dirty talker! If you do too, Underneath It All by Kate Canterbary may be the book for you. Currently free on Amazon, I didn’t have time to read it, but since Kate Canterbary is coming to Wicked Book Weekend, I wanted to read one of her books. I was so happy to see she had an audiobook! Not only that, the sample sounded great.
“If I had known I’d have a hot architect balls deep inside of me before the end of the weekend, I’d have made time for a pedicure.”
Lauren Halsted is a very career driven teacher looking to build and open her own school in the Boston area. When I say driven, I mean she is one no-nonsense business woman who can think of nothing but her quest. She’s no innocent virgin. She’s tiny but she is strong and independent (maybe too independent), can knock back tequila like a man, but loves her expensive lingerie. When she finds an old church she thinks will be a good school, she seeks out Matthew Walsh, architect and structural engineer.
Matt is basically a workaholic. He works with all of his siblings in the Walsh’s architecture firm. His leisure time is spent on triathlons, and the women he sleeps with are strong, athletic women who know that it is a one-time thing. As soon as he meets Lauren, even though she is the opposite of everything he goes for, his dick stands at attention immediately. And the naughty schoolteacher fantasies begin.
I saw myself bending her over the desk, hiking up her dress, and taking her right now. And I saw her liking it.
I spent a full minute on that thought before groaning inwardly. I was a dick. An unprofessional, single-minded dick and I didn’t like small, curvy girls who left their mojo all over me.
After one steamy night, Matthew is determined to keep Lauren, and she is just as determined to push him away because she didn’t want to be distracted from her career. I loved Matthew! He was a dirty talking, dirty sexing, possessive, nerdy, sweet, sexy, flawed guy. He was kind of obsessed with Lauren, and I loved his texts to her. But you know what I hated? Her not responding! How rude!
Lauren was a bit of an enigma to me. On one side she seems very experienced with men, especially considering her necklace (why wasn’t that ever explained?), but on the other, she seemed like she had never really had any good sex. Until Matthew. And boy was there lots of good biting, scratching, panty ripping, growling, wall, floor, desk and shower sex!
I really like the Walsh family and the relationships between the siblings. Matthew’s letters back and forth to his sister, and working with the rest of the clan made for some funny moments and great banter. I’m not really sure why they put up with Angus though.
Likes:
- Yum, Matthew Walsh was a total growling caveman, but he was also a math nerd.
- As Alpha as Matthew was in the bedroom, he was willing to do the chasing.
- Great banter.
- The family relationships.
- Hot, dirty talking, clawing and growling sex.
- Lots of humor.
- The texts and the e-mails.
- A little behind the scenes of architecture.
- I loved both male and female narrators.
Dislikes:
- Lauren started to really piss me off, letting Matthew swing in the wind a lot. I didn’t really get her.
- Lauren’s necklace totally didn’t fit her personality, and we never really found out about it.
- Wish there was an epilogue.
The Down & Dirty:
