Corrupt by Jessica Prince

Narrated by Alexandra Shawnee

1st in a series of Standalones

“You think you don’t fit in my world, but what you don’t get is that you are my world.”

This review will be quick because it’s been over a month since I listened to Corrupt by Jessica Prince and I barely remember it at all, so it’s just from my notes (I am anal about reviewing every single book I finish). According to my notes it was addictive and well-written, but the storyline really pissed me off.

Garrett is the sexy drummer of Civil Corruption. Gwen has no idea who he is when she attends his party with her friend, and has a night of amazing, steamy sex with the guy she thought she had a connection with—until his assistant kicked her out like every other groupie in the morning. When she ended up pregnant, the selfish bastard had his lawyers set them up with a little money and that’s it. He continued to tour, party, fuck groupies and ignore the fact that he had a kid.

Then 4 years later he decides he wants his family? Grrrrr….yet no matter how much I wanted to hate him, the asshole actually won me over while he won over Gwen.

Likes:

Jessica Prince is a great storyteller, even if I didn’t love the story at first.
I love single-parent books.
Not predictable.
Deliciously gritty and angsty.
She at least made him WORK for it.

Dislikes:

No condom with a one-night-stand?
He went THREE YEARS without giving a shit, and suddenly he wants her and their child but there is NO EXPLANATION for why he suddenly changed.
Gwen started to get frustrating.

The Narration:

Alexandra Shawnee has a very distinctive voice and I would bet anything that she also narrated my favorite series, The Chocolate Lovers Series by Tara Sivec under a different name. I had a hard time not wanting to giggle because that series makes me laugh so much. She is not good at different voices, especially the male voice, therefore I found it difficult to tell who was speaking.

The Down & Dirty:

Even after going over my notes and writing this review, Corrupt by Jessica Prince is still pretty hazy in my mind and nothing stood out to me as overly memorable. I know I was sucked in though, and finished it very quickly. I was also frustrated with both the hero and heroine at different times in the story. Overall I definitely enjoyed the book, but I don’t think enough to continue the series.
