The Secret To Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister by Meghan Quinn
Standalone Romantic Comedy
Meghan Quinn is a top five author for me. No matter what the genre, I love her writing, but her romantic comedies usually have a special magic about them, and I have very high expectations going into a Meghan Quinn book. The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister was a romantic comedy with a very common trope, and while I really really and truly enjoyed it, that M.Q. magic seemed to be dimmed a bit in this book.
Bram has been crazy about his best friend’s nerdy little sister since he met her in college, but being a manwhore, he wasn’t ready, and he knew she wasn’t either because she was busy developing and setting up her own business using her proprietary matchmaking dating system. When he sees her again, he realizes it’s time to start wooing.
“Smart women turn me on. There’s nothing worse than a woman pretending she’s stupid or acting stupid. Want to know how to get my balls to shrivel up into my dick? Act like a ditz. Makes me cringe every goddamn time. And even though we go to Yale, you’d be surprised by the amount of “dumb” women we’ve come across.”
He chooses a whole elaborate way to spend time with her—he deliberately loses a bet to try her dating program which he never intended to actually date on, it was just to be near her. Bram is GONE for Julia. He is 100% sure that she is “the one”, or he wouldn’t risk it with his best friend’s sister. Now he just has to convince her.
“And just like that, I feel my heart leap out of my chest and right into Julia’s hands. She holds it; she has it all to herself. But I don’t think she realizes that mine beats because of her—that she has the potential to crush it more than anyone else in my life—and I hope she doesn’t throw it back at me.
Ever.”
I loved Bram. I loved his bromance best friendships. In fact, that was absolutely my favorite part of the book. I read this over New Years and I must say, it took me forever to read. Granted, it was a rough and busy time, but if I was completely invested, it would have been a 2-day read, not 2 weeks.
“Why are you impossible to resist?”
“Because we’re soul mates, and when you’re soul mates, your hearts connect on many levels, which makes it impossible to resist each other.”
“Or maybe it’s because I’m addicted to your tongue.”
I loved Bram so much, though he wasn’t quite as alpha as I usually like a guy; but he was so clearly in love, how could I not love it?
Likes:
- A few LOL moments.
- Awesome bro-friendships.
- It was a sweet and sexy story.
- Sigh…Bram.
Dislikes:
- I never really loved the heroine, something I need to make me love a book.
- Took me forever to read, I just never got pulled to it.
“….focus on keeping that door to your heart open, because I’m about to sweep you off your pretty little feet.”
The Down & Dirty:
While The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister was an enjoyable read, it didn’t wow me the way most of Meghan’s other books have. Honestly, I have higher expectations when I read a Meghan Quinn book so even a book of hers that isn’t a favorite is still better than most other books I read. There just wasn’t anything overly unique, and it seemed to be missing a little of Meghan’s spark. I still liked it a lot and would totally recommend it, but it just wasn’t a favorite of hers. Still, if you are looking for that Best Friend’s sister story, or you like when the quiet, nerdy girl gets the crazy outgoing guy, this book may be for you.
