Pieces of Lies was sent to me for review by the author, Angela Richardson. This is the Australian mom’s first novel. When I read the description and she described the guys as HOT HOT HOT with a hint of bad, how can I say no?
Norah is an artist with a wealthy background who just transferred schools in her last semester, to get away from something in New York. Luckily she was able to connect with her best childhood friend, the handsome Josh, and the only person who knows all of her secrets. He is working to gain entrance into the über rich, über influential secret society, the Lapell. After all these years, the friendship is about to become more, until Josh screws up by tricking her into going to a not-so-nice Lapell party with him, where she meets the gorgeous Clint, from one of the wealthiest families in the country, and the owner of the home.
“Truthfully, from the moment in front of the Chagall, you had me Norah. Until that moment, I didn’t know moments like that existed between a man and a woman. I felt breathless, unhinged and lost, all in one split second because you deterred my future with just one look. You have no idea how completely floored I felt that a girl could so instantly take all my control and direction and all that I knew to be normal, and turn it completely and utterly upside down.”
They have an instant connection, but Norah is hiding some pretty dark secrets about her past, and Clint keeps running away as well. And there is Josh….and all of the sudden, a man from the past shows up as well…..poor Norah, torn between 3 totally hot guys who are all in love with her.
“How can a girl look so innocent and so hot at the same time?”
But she only gives her virginity to one.
“There are moments in your life that can change you forever, and you Norah, you are my forever moment…”
The Lapell is a dangerous and powerful group who will stop at nothing to get what they want, and they want Norah and her connections. Norah doesn’t know who to trust, it seems everyone plays there own little part in trying to manipulate her. Even her best girlfriend, Tess acts strange. Just as it seems the book might have a happy end, more mysteries arise, and the book ends. I had no clue it was a series.
- Three hot guys!
- Interesting mystery that I haven’t figured out.
- The art. The way she paints is interesting.
- Has me itching to know what the whole story is.
- I really liked Norah, and Clint, and Samuel….she has a tough choice! I couldn’t even pick a team (OK, Josh)
- I’ve never read about secret societies, making it unique.
- Too many errors.
- Cliffhanger, and I didn’t know.
- I never saw Norah and Clint fall in love, never felt the connection. Therefore, I didn’t fully connect and fall in love.
- Found myself distracted easily while reading.
Rating: 3 stars Heat 3.5 stars
I enjoyed the book, there were a few good mysteries going on, except the one about Norah’s past–I figured out who she was immediately. I liked her, I wanted to know more, but there was just a lack of connection with the couple and with me that hindered my full enjoyment of a good story.
