Butterflying Perfect. That’s how I would describe Point of Retreat (Slammed Series) by Colleen Hoover (the second in the Slammed series-read Slammed first). No, these books are not my normal genre, but who cares? When a book (or books in this case) moves you the way these do, nothing matters.
Point of Retreat takes place a year after most of the events in Slammed except the epilogue. Lake and Will are growing as ‘parents’ and responsible adults. Their relationship is tested. New neighbors Kiersten and her mom are GREAT additions to the story.
This story is told in Will’s point of view. I loved that. I will say, however, when reading them both back to back the transition from Lake’s POV to Will’s led to some confusion. (I guess that was my suck.) My sweet? Everything else! Especially the poem “Because of You” (which I was just about to quote but started crying again, then decided you guys need to read it yourselves.)
I don’t want to get wordy here, because this book deserves better than my writing. It made me appreciate what I have, it made me make arrangements for the future, and it made me laugh, cry, freak out, then cry again (in a good way).
Beautiful story. Recommended for everyone.
“My heart pounds against my chest. Not because I’m nervous. Not even because I want her worse that I’ve ever wanted her before. It’s pounding against my chest because I realize I’ve never been so sure about the rest of my life than I am in this moment. This girl is the rest of my life.”
