One Night Stand-In (Boyfriend Material 3) and Your French Kisses (Boyfriend Material 3.5) by Lauren Blakely
Narrated by Andi Arndt, Jason Clarke, Sebastian York, Zachary Webber, Erin Mallon and Shane East
Each can stand alone.Ā
Any reader of this blog knows that Lauren Blakely is my favorite audiobook author, and I have been loving the Boyfriend Material series, especially because it takes place in the literary world. Lauren takes typical romance tropes and makes them fresh, fun, sexy and smart. One Night Stand-In was a little different for Lauren.
The main action in One Night Stand-In took place over a 24 hour period, and we were along for the fun ride! We met Lola in the previous 2 books in the series, she was the friend that seemed to have her shit together. Back in college Lucas was her best friend, but there was always more between them. When they decided to explore the āmoreā and go out on their first date, Lucas was a no-show. Though it wasnāt really his fault, he never apologized, and Lola has held a grudge ever since.
Lucas and Lolaās flighty younger siblings are a couple, but they are away in Europe when their landlord decides to evict them and hold their security deposit unless they find all their stuff in 48 hours based on the clues he left. Since Lucas and Lola always bail their siblings out, they are forced together to figure out the clues and recover all of their siblingsā stuff.
Lucas and Lola are also book cover designers in a competition that has a deadline, so they only have 24 hours. What follows is a fast and funny 24 hour scavenger hunt around New York and the surrounding areas including an Alpaca farm!
āIām not afraid of Alpacas.ā
āGood, but those are Llamas.ā I say.
āNo, theyāre alpacas.ā He says pointing to the Alpacalypse sign.
āNope.ā I shake my head as I gesture to the long-faced animals. āDefinitely llamas.ā
āThen why does it say Alpacalypse?ā
āBecause the llamas are warning us about it.ā
One Night Stand-In was fast moving, fun and sexy and I enjoyed every minute of the listen, but it was definitely a little sillier than most of Laurenās books. Donāt get me wrong, I love silly and I had a great time, but I’m not sure I loved it as much as most of her other books, but then again, this Coronavirus could be affecting my feelings. I am glad that it was a bit longer than her average book because it moved so fast and I was really enjoying it.
Likes:
- Kept me smiling and giggling the whole time.
- Visiting with all the friends from previous books plus some bonuses.
- Super quick one sitting read despite it being longer than many of Laurenās books.
- Very different than Laurenās other books where she seems to take a popular romance trope and make it better. This was a fun change and very unique.
- Llamas!!! Alpacas!!
- Great banter.
Dislikes:
- A little sillier and more unrealistic than most of Laurenās books.
- Their younger siblings need to grow the fuck up.
- Their reason for not talking for almost 10 years seems a little stupid.
Bonus Listen: Your French Kisses
āWeāre a moment in time. A starburst. A spark against the sky that burns bright and fast.ā
Sigh⦠I loved this so, so much! Reid and Marley met in France and spent an unforgettable chocolatey afternoon together. The connection was strong, but they didnāt share last names or how to contact each other because they would be in different countries. That connection doesnāt let up, and when they meet again years later in New York, itās Kismet.
This novella was everything! Though it didnāt have Laurenās HOT sex scenes, it didnāt need it. It was a wholly fulfilling and fun novella with fabulous narration!
The Narration:
OMG, Andi Arndt & Jason Clarke with Sebastian York, Zachary Webber, Erin Mallon and Shane East??? The narration was pure perfection and made it an even more fun listen.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating:
4 Stars for One Night Stand-In and 5 for Your French Kisses. I would say it’s 4.25 total. 4 heat, 5 Narration.
