I loved this book so much! When I saw the audiobook for Losing Sight by Tati Richardson on NetGalley, he idea of a 40+ romantic comedy with a touch of magical realism immediately caught my attention. I’m so glad I chose it—I enjoyed every word.

Tanika Ryan has spent years proving herself in the male-dominated world of sports journalism. At 40, she hosts the top-rated football show on her network, but lately, something feels off. Squinting at the teleprompter, stumbling over lines, and battling headaches have started affecting her work. To make matters worse, she’s losing ground to a younger, less-qualified woman.

She knows she needs to get her vision checked, but as an on-air personality, she doesn’t want to show any signs of aging. When the issue becomes too big to ignore, she turns to Gideon Miles, a widowed optician who has avoided relationships since losing his wife. Their connection sparks instantly, but whether he’s ready for something new remains uncertain.

A mysterious assistant leads Tanika to a unique pair of glasses, and suddenly, things start changing. Her viewers love her new look, and opportunities begin falling into place. But with newfound attention—both professional and personal—Tanika has to figure out what she really wants and whether Gideon is willing to step into the spotlight with her.

I loved Gideon’s blend of sweet and strong, with just the right amount of possessiveness. The magical realism remained subtle, adding a fun twist without overpowering the story. Even though Losing Sight is labeled as a romcom, it explores deeper themes like ageism, racism, female equality, sexual harassment, and grief while still delivering humor and heart.

I loved Tanika’s “Boss Chick Village”—her group of friends, all Black women at the top of their careers.
The story explores very realistic and relatable issues that women over 40 face.
The glasses were just a little magic—enough to add intrigue while keeping the story grounded.
I loved the F1 references and cars.
Gideon’s love and respect for his late wife was handled beautifully.
HOT over-forty sex. Yes, we do it too!
I loved Gideon’s sister-in-law.

Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L. Wood were both new to me, and they did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. They perfectly embodied the characters, making the audiobook a great experience.

The Down & Dirty:

Losing Sight was a fabulous read! It captured the realities of being a woman at the top of her career, especially as a Black woman, with humor, heart, and just a touch of magic. I loved every character, the themes it explored, and the subtle humor woven into the more serious moments. If you love over-40 romance, I highly recommend Losing Sight by Tati Richardson.
