Bleeding Love (Hope Town 2) by Harper Sloan
Contemporary Romance. Connected Standalone.
This is why I read. Harper Sloan made me remember. After struggling through my last few books that were just “meh”, Bleeding Love came and slapped me across the face with the reminder of exactly why I love to read. I fell asleep after I finished with a wet face covered in good tears, and hugging my kindle, then woke up the next morning to re-read the last 30%.
I have been having some issues with my eyes this summer which makes it difficult to read, but I honestly didn’t care. I could have been hemorrhaging and I would not have stopped reading this perfect book.
First of all, when a book starts with THIS, you know it’s gonna be good.
But honestly, though Bleeding Love is HOT, it’s SO MUCH MORE. I’m a sucker for single parent love stories and Megan is a single mom to Molly, the most adorable little girl ever. 3 years earlier, Megan lost her husband in the Gulf. He served with Cohen, which got her into the Corps group, but she kept herself and her daughter closed off, so she wouldn’t love and lose anyone else in her life. She had a tragic background and had no family to speak of, so all of her love and attention was focused on Molly.
Liam Beckett (Beck’s son from Corps Security Series, which you don’t have to read first but I highly recommend in general) is a cop who has been waiting for Megan to come alive since the moment he first laid eyes on her. When she finally lets her guard down a little bit, Liam slips right in and lets her know it.
I’ve wanted this since the day I met you, but I knew you weren’t ready for me. I’ve been trying to keep my distance, just waiting for those clouds to leave your eyes. If you don’t want me to take you back to my house, strip you naked and fuck you until you can’t walk for weeks, then say so now, because the second I have you I won’t be letting go.”
As hot as the sex was, to Megan, she wanted it to remain that. Just sex. She couldn’t let herself get close. She was filled with too much guilt and misery. But Liam got in there once, and he, in true alpha fashion was not going to give up the fight.
Because not only am I fighting for someone that can’t see through the shadows to find the rope I’m holding to pull herself off rock bottom, but I’m also fighting the ghosts of her past that I’m not sure will let her go long enough to make that climb.
I love how Liam just dug in and wouldn’t let her go. He was there for her to help her get through it all.
Look, Liam. You’re a nice guy and all that, but I just don’t think you and I are on the same page here.”
“Same book, different chapters, baby. Don’t worry, you’ll learn to read fast.”
Everyone loved Molly, you couldn’t help but fall for the adorable little 5 year old and her “makeupovers” (Picturing Axel in lipstick? Priceless.) And I love how Molly’s attachment to “LeeLee” happened even before he started a relationship with her mother.
Liam’s plan of showing Megan what it was like to LIVE and to FEEL again was brilliant, and I just loved watching her come alive under his tutelage.
You’ll get it soon and once those light bulbs click on I hope to fuck you’ll let me show you how beautiful being alive can feel.”
Despite Liam being a cop, Bleeding Love is not the action/adventure you come to expect, and that’s OK, because it was filled with so many amazing emotions! I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I got hot, and I fell in love with every character. And when I say I got hot….Holy moly, Harper writes it hot.
The smell of you, God damn. I thought I was starving for you before. I’m going to eat you until you can’t breathe, Megan. Fucking drown in you.”
“Oh, God.”
“Hold on, darlin’,” he tells me and then my shorts and panties are flying over his shoulder, his hands back at my hips and he pulls me against his mouth— hard.
Likes:
- Molly. That little girl was just so adorable.
- Visiting with all of my favorite characters (Though as grandparents? So weird.)
- How Liam used his parent’s example of a marriage to know what he wanted in life (Dee & Beck are his parents!)
- Liam…sigh…he is perfect.
- I loved Megan!!!
- Liam’s lessons on living.
- Hot, dirty talking alpha…yum.
- BUBBLEGUM.
- I cried a ton of tears, but they were mostly blubbering happy ones.
- A widowed mom story. I love those.
- That it can easily stand alone, you don’t have to remember all the characters to follow the story.
- Did not follow the “typical” story arc.
Dislikes:
- A few editing errors (I did purchase the final book) but not enough to reduce the rating at all.
- The time frame is a bit weird, since Corps Security is current time, and now their children is current time…or are these in the future?

The Down and Dirty:
Open your eyes, Megan. It’s time to grab the rope,”
I don’t even know where to start this review. I loved this book on so many levels, it is hard to break it down in review form. My thoughts and feelings were all over the place as I read this book. I was incredibly honored to read this as Harper was writing it. And, I am not kidding when I say I was salivating to get my hands on the next little bit. I was addicted from the start. Megan is so lost…and rightfully so, she has been through so much and she is literally just going through the motions of life. She’s not stopping to just breathe, or feel, or enjoy anything outside of the love for her daughter. And Liam…oh, sweet effing Liam…This man is the epitome of strength and HOTNESS.
“I need to know you’re with me, Megan. I’ve wanted this since the day I met you, but I knew you weren’t ready for me. I’ve been keeping my distance, just waiting for those clouds to leave your eyes. If you don’t want me to take you back to my house, strip you naked and f*ck you until you can’t walk for weeks, then say so now, because the second I have you I won’t be letting go.”
Megan is struggling so hard. Yet Liam is with her every step of the way, encouraging her, carrying her when she falls, giving her the strength and support she needs to see herself out of the storm. You know he is the blood of Beck and Dee…it is so evident in the way he handles Megan.
“You won’t get it right away. Hell, you might not even see it, but you will eventually. I’ve been waiting. It’s time for me to help you see.”
“See what!” I snap.
“Everything.”
In all honesty, this story is not like Harper’s other books. The emotions that are brought forth in this story are big and heavy. I cried some pretty ugly tears…and I am not usually a crier. And there is the added element of Molly. One of the sweetest, most beautiful children I’ve ever read. This little one wiggled herself into my heart IMMEDIATELY. She adds SO MUCH to this story, and I fell in love with her. Hard.
I don’t want to give away any pieces of the storyline, but all I have to say is …bubblegum.
“You’re my favorite little girl in the whole universe. It’s time for me to show you off. Let everyone know that you’re mine.”
Her eyes don’t lose their wide wonderment, but she gives me a small grin. “I’m yours?” she questions.
“Forever and ever, stuck with the biggest, stickiest, gooiest piece of bubblegum in the whole world.”
I finished this book and I wanted to stand up and clap and cheer. It was perfection…Heartbreaking, raw, and soul healing. It had a beauty that was so pure and powerful. It was brilliant. It is absolutely my favorite Harper Sloan book to date. My heart was so full!! Full of life, healing, and warmth. This story could not have possibly been told any more perfectly.
**Ok, so here’s the dealio…this book is incredibly close to my heart….for a million reasons. But, I am going to share one reason in particular. The day that Harper Effing Sloan told me that she loved me so much she named a character after me….I died…a fiery, magnificently fabulous, ultimate fangirl death. Seriously. I absolutely could not stop smiling and randomly squeeing all. day. long. When Unexpected Fate came out, I finally got to meet Megan. And she was awesome! Then, Harper told me that Megan was getting her own book, and *thud*….I was so excited I may have peed a little. Don’t judge me! It’s not every day that one of your most favorite authors names a character after you! I was incredibly honored to be along for the ride as Harper brought this book to life. She is an amazing author, but an even more amazing person. I simply adore her.
