Altered State by Ella Dominguez
Erotic Psychological Thriller. Standalone
Warning: Contains detailed sexual encounters & profanity. Intended for readers aged 18+.
Beauty lies in the truth.
A wife with a thirst for revenge desperately trying to save her marriage while hiding in the shadows of her memories… A woman with questionable intentions, a sketchy past and a taste for unavailable men… A husband in love with his wife, a man mesmerized by his mistress, a willing hostage caught between two obsessive women.
A murderer, a liar and a cheater. You think you know which one is which, but nothing is as it seems. After all, everyone wears a mask. Some are just better at hiding the truth than others.
Lies will be exposed. Truths revealed. Blood shed. All in the name of something far more potent than love and much more toxic.
Do you ever get to a point in which you can’t seem to find the time to read more than a few pages here and there?  Or that despite how well written the book is; you just can’t seem to get into it?  That precisely sums up my reading for the past few months.  For as long as I can remember, I’m used to sitting down and not walking away until the last page has been read, but lately it just seems that life keeps getting in the way.
I started Altered State a couple months ago, but between enjoying the summer weather, starting a new job, being a wife and maintaining a social life, I hadn’t been able to get past chapter one.  Now before you go jumping to any false conclusions about the book itself or the authors writing let me make one thing clear……the time gap has absolutely NOTHING, I mean NOTHING at all to do with the book or the author. I just don’t enjoy reading with distractions.  I much rather give my undivided attention to the characters on the pages.  I also need to be in the right mindset for a story that is going to completely mess with my head.
So like I said, I’ve had this sitting on my Kindle since release day and yesterday I found myself with some downtime, so I turned my Kindle on and started back at page 1 and didn’t put it down until I was literally forced to so I could get some much needed sleep.  I even woke up extra early today, just so I could finish the last few pages.
I’m certain I’m not alone when I say that while reading a book, I tend to fantasize and draw up my own conclusions on how I believe the book will end.  You know what I’m talking about…those times when you think you have it all figured out and then you turn the page to find out that you were completely off base.
I don’t really want to get into any details of the story itself, because honestly you need to read it and I’m not sure I could tell it in a way without providing any spoilers.  But let me tell you, this story had me audibly gasping and sitting with open mouth in complete disbelief and utter shock.  I was angry and sad, happy and turned on, and at times even my heart hurt for the characters.
Although I could certainly read more about the Delacruz’s, I find that the way Ella was able to wrap the story up at the end was perfect.  Thank you Ella, I can’t wait for your next book!

“His back against the headboard… tied to within an inch of his life… his cock teased and sucked to within a moment of coming… his face smothered with my pussy as my hands rest against the wall above him… my fingers twisted in his hair and his tongue ridden until he moans out in pain.
“From the first moment I laid eyes on her, I wanted to be her lifeboat, her savior, the one she clung to when the tidal waves of life threatened to sweep her out to sea. All I wanted was to take care of her and give her the kind of love I thought she deserved.”
“God, she’s so beautiful. With lips that beg to be kissed and a body that yearns to be held and cherished…”
