The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn
Narrated by Paula Nederhorst and Antony Ferguson
Standalone RomCom in Scotland
The Highland Fling was another totally adorable Meghan Quinn read! This one was so much fun to listen to because it took place in Scotland, so we had some Scottish accents, which took a few minutes to get used to, but it made The Highland Fling even more enjoyable and authentic.
Bonnie and Dakota are best friends in the US. Bonnie is having a hard time finding her place in the world and was just fired from her third job in a row. Dakota just went through a bad breakup with her girlfriend and really needs to get away. So the two friends answer an ad to run a coffee shop in the Scottish Highlands for 6 months.
They don’t expect to meet the hot, but very grumpy Rowan, whose parents own the coffee shop they will be running. He definitely does NOT like the idea of two Americans who know nothing about coffee, or Scotland for that matter, running his parent’s shop. But you know what that means…banter!
“I think I might have met my match—and she’s wrapped up in a tiny, feisty, all-American package.”
Bonnie and Rowan were a fun couple, and I enjoyed watching them go from hate to love, but the real intriguing story was Dakota. She may have have found a new girl to help her move on in Scotland as well. I’d love more of her story!
Likes:
- Listening to the Scottish accents made it different and fun.
- Fergus the screaming goat.
- Corsekelly sounded like a beautiful place and really came alive in this book.
- Lots of laugh-out-loud humor.
- It was my first Scottish RomCom, and I loved how unique it was.
- I loved all the side characters.
- Dakota’s side story.
Dislikes:
- The romance got a little lost in the multiple storylines.
The Narration:
I’ve never heard of either Paula Nederhorst or Antony Ferguson but they were both great! I don’t know if his accent is real, but I never doubted it. This is a book I highly recommend the audio over reading.
The Down & Dirty:
Meghan Quinn is one of my all-time-favorite authors for a reason! She never fails to deliver a book I don’t want to put down, but her romcoms are really where my love is. The Highland Fling was completely unique and so much fun to listen to with the Scottish accents!
Rating: 4.25 Stars, Heat: 3, Narration 5
