Review: His Perfect Passion by Raine Miller

Raine Miller is author of the wildly popular Blackstone Affair series. If you haven’t met Ethan Blackstone yet, you are totally missing out! Many of you may not know this, but Raine’s real calling is erotic historical romance. Her two erotic historical novels, His Perfect Passion, and the Undoing of a Libertine will be tied into Eyes Wide Open, and Raine suggests you read these first.

His Perfect Passion is a quick read of about 110 pages. I must say from the start, I don’t love historicals (except Gone with the Wind), but, this is by Raine Miller. Any woman that can write Ethan Blackstone, must be good at anything!

Darius Rourke has been interested in Maryanne since she was a child in church. He waited and waited until she was old enough, then grabbed the opportunity when she and her father were desperately in debt (a crime back then) and needed a savior; her dowery could keep them out of debtors prison.

Darius was dominant, and was able to sense that she was submissive. He knew just how to treat her to get her to do what she wanted.

“Fisting handfuls of her hair, he breathed in the scent, his weight settling back against her side. “I’ve imagined you like this with your glorious hair flowing free, lying in our bed, waiting for me.” His mouth moved to her neck, grazing in the hollows with gentle lips and teeth. “Open the top of your dress. I want to see you, Marianne.”

But Maryanne was submissive because she felt she didn’t deserve anything more, something in her past had scarred her and made it difficult for to do other that just what she is told.

Maryanne’s favorite place is the sea, and she paints beautiful seascapes (these paintings must be how she ties into The Blackstone Affair). Darius is absolutely crazy about Maryanne and will do anything for her, but mostly wants her to let go of what ever it is, and love him.

Likes:

• Raine Miller knows how to write sex!
• It didn’t really feel like I was reading such an “olden days” book.
• I really liked Darius and Maryanne.
• Light BDSM (using a bathrobe sash for bondage.)

Disliked:

• Not only was this historical, but British historical, so her vagina was consistently referred to as “quim” and “cunny”.
• 3rd person made it a little hard for me to connect, but I spoke to Raine about this, and she said this is how historicals are written.

Rating: 3.75 stars, 4.5 Heat

This is not my regular genre, so please take this rating accordingly. If you are OK with the British words, this will rate higher for you. If you are a fan of historicals, this will rate even higher.

I DO recommend this read because it is quick, different (and we all need to switch things up sometimes, no?), very hot,  and it ties into Eyes Wide Open! I want the full experience with that book, so if you do as well, grab His Perfect Passion as well as The Undoing of a Libertine.
