A Little Taste by Tia Louise
Narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Troy Duran
It’s been about 7 years since I last read a Tia Louise book, so when I saw she would be at the Chicago signing I was attending, I grabbed the audiobook of A Little Taste. I’m catching up on reviews now, a month later, and I remember some more than others. Luckily I take good notes, because this one did not stand out as very memorable to me even though I enjoyed the light and easy small-town romantic suspense.
Britt Bailey left Eureka and became a forensic photographer. She comes from a magical family who rely on Tarot cards to make decisions and she lost her father to a magic trick-gone-wrong. Her grandmother is the town mayor, and she has asked Britt to come back to help the sheriff solve some crimes that are happening in town.
Aiden is a former Marine-turned-sheriff, and he’s a single dad to an adorable little boy. He and Britt’s family have had a rivalry for years, and he hates anything to do with magic. Britt had a crush on the Sheriff when she was younger, but due to their 7-year age difference he always looked at her like a kid. He’s grumpy AF and has major trust issues, but he comes from a great family with two more hot brothers who each get a book in this series.
As Britt and Aiden work together, there is no use fighting the very quickly growing feelings they develop. Especially after Britt and her dog bond with his son.
“All I know is I’ve never felt this way for a woman. She could hurt me in a way no one ever has, and I don’t like it.”
There was a good amount of insta-love here, but I felt like we didn’t see it happen. They worked together, but we never really saw them outside of work when they weren’t having sex; she was with his son more than him. I still enjoyed the story, it just didn’t WOW me.
“With enough love, you can do anything. You can change your life. You can even change your mind. It only took a little taste to find the love of a lifetime.”
Likes:
- I loved his son and Britt’s relationship with him.
- The quirky town and characters.
- His dirty talking.
- Great side characters.
- The sprinkling of magic.
- An awesome dog.
Dislikes:
- I didn’t really see them interact enough outside of work (except sex) to fall in love.
- I felt like she was closer to his son than him.
- He seemed to care way too much about her age, they were both grown adults.
- I felt like his kinkiness and dirty-talking didn’t fit his character at all.
The Narration:
I enjoyed both narrators and thought they were great for the parts. I think the narration added to the story, but I didn’t find Troy’s voice to be all that sexy.
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 3.75 Stars, 3 heat, 4.5 Narration
