2nd Annual Mental Health Awareness Book Fundraiser with Gift Card Giveaway

05/09/2014

Keith Milano Fund

*The Keith Milano Fundraiser is a fellow blogger’s (Denise Milano Sprung) brother who suffered from mental illness.  Please read below for more information and to see the authors who are participating this year.  A percentage of proceeds from the sales  from May 1st – May 31st of these books will be donated to the Keith Milano Fund.  Thank you to everyone for your support!*

The Keith Milano Memorial Fund was established to help raise awareness about the devastating and deadly disease that is mental illness. Keith’s spirit and laughter is kept alive through our efforts to increase awareness about mental illness and to raise money for education and imperative research. Keith often struggled with society’s perception of mental illness.  Our hope is that by having the strength to say that Keith was “Bipolar” we can strip away the stigma and help others to be more open about their disease. www.keithmilano.org

The Keith Milano Memorial Fund benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).  www.afsp.org

AFSP is the only national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.

AFSP is a fully accredited 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated in the state of Delaware with primary offices in New York City. Federal tax ID # is 13-3393329. AFSP’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) number is 10545. All donations to AFSP are tax deductible.

Having a mother that is bipolar (manic depressive) I really appreciate everything that helps awareness with mental disorders. When I was growing up there wasn’t a lot of awareness and I suffered as a child not understanding this disease and why I did not have a normal “nurturing” mother.

This is such a wonderful cause! This touches my heart and hits close to home as I have a close family member who struggled his whole life with his mental illness and actually had a majority of his family turn his back on him when he got sick. I am so glad there are organizations out there dedicated to mental illness and to bringing to light that this is not something people can control and they are still people just like everyone else, they just have some different obstacles to overcome.

Anonymous Mom Posts by @jenifergoldinwrites may be Anonymous Mom Posts by @jenifergoldinwrites may be one of my favorite books of 2023. It’s so unique and fun! It’s about a local Facebook moms group and focuses on 6 different women in the neighborhood. Each chapter starts with a post and comments, and I thought it was a fun and unique read!

I wholeheartedly enjoyed Kissing Kosher by Jean Me I wholeheartedly enjoyed Kissing Kosher by Jean Meltzer and would recommend it to anyone Jewish or wanting to learn about being Jewish. I would recommend it for anyone with chronic pain as well. Though there were a few issues I can pick at (see my review for details) I very much enjoyed the listen, and I think it may be my favorite of Jean Meltzer’s three releases.

Formula 1 is by far the sexiest sport. I don’t k Formula 1 is by far the sexiest sport. I don’t know why we don’t have more romances set in racing and I’m so glad @kbromberg has set her latest series in my favorite sport. Riggs started off not-so-good but completely won me over with his sweet, fun, lighthearted personality. I laughed and I cried. It was slow-burn, but the last 25% had me riveted and I hate to wait until January for the next in the Full Throttle Series.

Fighting the Pull by @kristenashleybooks is LIVE a Fighting the Pull by @kristenashleybooks is LIVE at MIDNIGHT! While the River Rain Series has had its ups and downs for me, I absolutely loved Fighting the Pull. Elsa is by far my favorite heroine of the series and Hale was all bossy and sexy. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a billionaire either. As more and more background about the characters comes up, it’s made me want to re-read the whole series with new eyes while I anxiously await for the next in the series!

Don’t come for me! I listened to A Court of Thor Don’t come for me! I listened to A Court of Thorns and Roses and enjoyed it but wasn’t raving about it, but everyone said I have to read the second book, A Court of Mist & Fury. I wish I could say I loved it, but I just liked it. With the next book being 25+ hours, I wasn’t willing to spend that time to continue the series. What are your thoughts?

Wow, We Own Tonight is an oldie but a goody! It’ Wow, We Own Tonight is an oldie but a goody! It’s been on my radar for years, but I never got to it. It had everything I love in a romance novel and more. Filled with romance, friendship, family, love, and heartbreak, We Own Tonight by @corinnemichaels left me wondering why I waited so long to read it; it’s no wonder it’s still so popular 6 years after release.
