The Pucking Wrong Number by C.R. Jane
Narrated by Troy Duran and Alexis Paige
1st in a related series but stands alone. Dork Hockey Romance with a bit of humor.
“When something feels this fucking good, you don’t fight it. You just follow it to the ends of the earth, no matter where it takes you.”
What was this book? A sports romance? A romcom? A dark romance? Or just a completely fucked-up romance? I picked up The Pucking Wrong Number by C.R. Jane because my roommate at Wild & Windy West (who I barely knew) said it was one of her favorites. After Butcher & Blackbird and Lights Out, I was looking for more dark romcoms. Plus, my favorite trope is a wrong number meet-cute or any relationship that starts with texts or emails.
I didn’t realize going in that it was about such a young heroine, and a virgin at that. That was my first red flag, and I probably should have stopped there, but hey, I loved Twilight, so who knows? Despite her age, I was really enjoying the first part. The wrong number text leading to playful text flirting totally worked for me.
Monroe has had such an awful life and works so hard, so I loved the idea of a big, rich hockey player swooping in to take care of her and give this poor girl a break. I was giggling and having fun with it… until he started reminding me of my ex-husband, except with lots of money.
“Other people might call that scary stalker behavior. I called it true love.”
Lincoln was OBSESSED the moment he saw her photo. What started as protective turned possessive, then full-on psycho stalker.
“I was a predator, and she was my prey. But she was more than that. She was my salvation, the one person who could make me feel alive again. I was willing to do whatever it took to keep her by my side, to make her see that we were meant to be together. And nothing, not even her, would stand in the way of that.”
Likes:
- I love a romance that starts with texting
- There were definitely some fun moments
- The sex was pretty damn hot
- The first third was really good
- This cover always stands out as memorable
Dislikes:
- It finally went too far and then jumped off the rails for me
- What he finally did to her was absolutely unacceptable and unforgivable, but she forgave him right away
The Narration:
The duet narration was fantastic and 100% made me enjoy the book more than if I had read it with my eyes
The Down & Dirty:
Rating: 3 Stars, 4 heat, 5 Narration
