My Vampire Plus One by Jenna Levine
Narrated by Daniel Henning and Helen Laser
Second in a connected series, better if read in order.
I really enjoyed My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine, the first in the My Vampires Series, but I honestly couldn’t picture Reginald the prankster as a romantic hero. In my head he looked like the Penguin from Batman. Short, round, trollish. So imagine my surprise when I learned he is actually a hot blond who happens to be turned on by accountants.
Amelia is an accountant who basically has no life outside of work. Her family and friends push her so hard to find a man that she ends up looking for a fake date for a family wedding. That is when she runs into Reginald. She knows it makes no sense and that he is weird as hell, but he seems harmless enough.
“A small part of me, though, probably the part of me that hadn’t kissed anyone in about a year and hadn’t had sex for what might as well have been an epoch, imagined what it would be like, kissing this bizarre stranger. He was hot, like burning, despite his odd mannerisms. The confident way he stood, his manner of speech, the bold smolder of those bright blue eyes… I bet he’d kiss like the world was ending.”
Reginald is over three hundred years old and truly does not care what anyone thinks. He is bold, flamboyant, and has been on the run from vampire leadership for ages because of a centuries old prank. Normally I hate misunderstandings in romance, but this one actually worked. He told her he was a vampire, and she assumed he was joking. Meanwhile Reginald thought she already knew.
My Vampire Plus One is fun and silly, and I especially loved that these vampires do not fight with violence. They fight with letters and outdated websites.
Likes:
- I liked seeing the couple from the previous book.
- Reginald was so much fun.
- I loved the way Amelia’s accounting tied into the story.
- How old fashioned and inept the vampires are.
- I smiled the whole way through.
- I loved how the misunderstanding worked out.
Dislikes:
- It’s not very memorable and a little too silly at times.
- He never quite felt like leading man material.
The Narration:
The narration was solid. Reggie’s voice matched his personality, though I would have preferred something a little sexier to help sell him as a leading man. Helen Laser did a great job and felt grounded and real.
The Down & Dirty:
My Vampire Plus One by Jenna Levine was light, sexy, and fun. It is not the kind of book that sticks with you for long, but it gave me a good time while I was in it. If you want something cheerful, quirky, and low stress with a sweet romance and a ridiculous vampire world, this is a perfect weekend listen, especially if you have read My Roommate is a Vampire. It left me smiling from start to finish.
Rating: 3.75 Stars, 2 Flame, 3.5 Narration
